This book was ok, I didn’t mind it. The pictures at the start of each chapter were really good which made me want to read on. It’s an interesting concept to look at how life might be if you never existed and the experience helps Maxwell see that, as well as his naughty side, he has good qualities that do make a difference to people’s lives. He realises that, without him, some of those he knows would have less rich, happy lives. He can do good things, and often does, when he’s not acting self-destructively, such as providing his elderly, forgetful neighbour with much-appreciated company and saving Monster, who was injured and abandoned when Maxwell first found him. I liked the part when he got confused where he was and I hated the part where he got into trouble.I would recommend this to my mum I feel like there could be more to explore with Maxwell and the magic egg. Can you imagine writing a sequel to this book? What might happen?

Yes, they were. Especially the scene where he talks about his wife Emily. That was a ‘writer sobbing at her laptop’ moment! The Goldfish Boy was one of the biggest-selling debuts of 2017. I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Maxwell, a boy who is a consistent troublemaker and seeks to make others miserable. His only real friends are Charlie, the geeky boy who is too afraid of Max to stay away, and an elderly man named Reg who Maxwell confides in as a third paternal figure. With family troubles at home, a looming divorce and friendship issues, Maxwell feels misunderstood and starts to wish that he was never born. Monday, 24 May, 11.32 a.m. Ted and Kat watch their cousin Salim get on board the London Eye. He turns and waves and the pod rises from the ground. But Thompson cleverly shifts our attitude as we realise his behaviour is a result of his parents’ constant arguments. How is an 11-year-old supposed to cope with a home life as messy as this? The story is a good one. And it play on the thoughts that many people, young and old feel sometimes when they made mistakes. The little historical tidbits (no spoilers!) sprinkled throughout added a nice little mystery for Maxwell to solve. I knew some of the references, but the other ones were new to me… I definitely found that information very interesting! And I like how it all connects to his disappearance. This is one of my top 20 favourite books. It's a warm story about the meaning of life and what it would be without you. It makes me feel very unique and special.

One day, while looking through a mysterious cabinet of curiosities, Maxwell finds himself erased from his life: it’s as if he’s never been born. At first, being able to walk around without being yelled at is great, but Maxwell starts to miss his old life. And, if he’d never existed, then he wouldn’t have swooped Monsterout of the path of that car…

Liked it. Some things seemed a bit trite or rather, unworked or not thought through completely. I liked it though. Liked the dawning realisation that things for Maxwell have changed and that he no longer exists for any of the people in his life…most especially, Monster, his fat rescue beagle… This book is excellent reading for anyone but I can really imagine it helping any child who might have chosen the wrong path and desperately wants to make amends but doesn’t know how. It shows that we ALL have good and bad points and that we can make amends when we mess up. Maxwell’s future at the end of the book isn’t a complete happy ending but it’s happy enough to reassure any reader that life carries on and that everyone can make a difference. Maxwell is a bit of a trouble maker. He is not bad but he seems to get into trouble, of being naughty but not in a mean way. I think the historical angle would be so lovely! Scholastic have also created some free teaching resources to use in the class room for this book (and The Goldfish Boy) which can be accessed here:

A coming-of-age story about learning to celebrate yourself -- and teaching the world to recognize you, too -- perfect for fans of R. J. Palacio's Wonder! I really liked the part when Maxwell was actually erased with a magical egg. That part was quite surprising! In fact, the whole book is about how one aspect of our character need not define us. Maxwell is a deeply caring, loving child - he loves the dog he rescued, he provides great comfort to his sister when she is bullied and he has befriended a forgetful old man, Reg.

Maxwell adores his dog Monster and annoys his sister Bex and elderly next door neighbor. While his parents always argue and label their food to show how they are separate from each other one thing they can agree on is when Maxwell has been bad. Boy Underwater is a heartbreaking story about family, friends and secrets. And it’s very, very funny.

The book references lots of famous disappearances and mysteries throughout history. Is this something that has always interested you? Do you have a favourite famous mystery? So he was transport to the world when he was not even born. No one knows him. He got a hard re-set to the world. I really enjoyed this book and it was really moving. The moral of the story is about loving and appreciating your family (even if your sibling/s are annoying!) Maxwell è il classico ragazzino sveglio, scaltro ma che non riesce proprio a stare lontano dai guai e soprattutto a non combinarne di nuovi, è più forte di lui e di qualsiasi altra cosa. is really naughty at school and he gets told off loads of times he sneaks into a concert and turns off the electricity so the concert can’t go on. He gets erased and he loses his mum and dad and his sister Bex I loved this book!
