About this deal

The core sensor/lens specs match last year’s model like-for-like, which means existing Mavic Mini owners will likely begrudge forking out extra for this upgrade. a. After attaching the 360° Propeller Guard, the service ceiling is reduced to 1500 m as there are some weight-related safety concerns when flying with this accessory at high altitudes. Mavic air is just a great drone for short range flight 500m flight especially at ground hugging altitude. The controller doesn't have a display, so you'll need to connect your phone if you want to see the view from the camera; if you're interested in a drone that you can fly without adding a smartphone, take a look at the Autel EVO. Mavic mini 2 indoor performance is amazing so much so I’m trying to figure out how to get the mavic air to fly indoors and it’s just too big and too powerful for indoor use.

I tend to fly drones not manually use a lot of assistance so the mavic air beats the mavic mini 2 for distance. Control over images and video capture is relatively minimal, with no option to tweak contrast or saturation. You can still overlay handy tools like a histogram and gridline to help with framing, but we would have liked to have seen more options to enhance footage.

The DJI Mini 2 is the best drone for most people.

The Mavic Air 2 isn't perfect, but it's a pleasure to fly and shoot with, and could easily become the most popular DJI drone to date. Will I need to register the DJI Mavic Air 2? The dual-resolution capability comes from a Quad Bayer sensor design. It's not that much larger in surface area than a standard smartphone imager, so its pixels are physically smaller. That leads to a bit more grain, but a palpable improvement in detail, when shooting at 48MP. That said, it's not the best camera you can get in a small drone for imaging; I still give preference to the larger, 1-inch sensor camera in the Mavic 2 Pro. It's "only" 20MP, but that's not what matters most. The Mavic Mini 2 is an excellent drone for hobbyists and beginners alike. One particular line that resonates is that this is 'a drone that grows with you.' The original Mini had its limitations with JPEG-only imagery, 2.7K video footage, and a Wi-Fi signal. DJI took the logical next steps to ensure that anyone purchasing the Mini 2 could accomplish a lot more with their investment.

The DJI Mavic Mini is a lightweight drone that you don't have to register, but spotty connectivity makes it hard to recommend wholeheartedly. Gesture-based control for absolute minimum hassle/gear/setup in the moment to get a selfie of you and your spouse/child/friend at the vista point on a leisure drive. More control via cell phone connected via wifi, no controller setup necessary. Then, of course, full control with the remote. That's impressively small for a device that features enough battery power to stay aloft for about 26 minutes in my testing. Wind and temperature will be factors in how long you can fly, and most of my testing was done in temperatures ranging from 35 to 60 degrees, which might be why I got a little less life than the 30 minutes DJI claims (lithium batteries do not like cold weather).GB: Samsung Evo Plus, SanDisk Extreme V30 A2, SanDisk Extreme Plus V30 A1, SanDisk Extreme Plus V30 A2, Lexar 633x, Lexar 667x, Lexar 1000x, Lexar High Endurance, Toshiba EXCERIA M303 V30 A1, Netac Pro V30 A1 The DJI Fly app is a well-balanced combination of simple to use, but powerful enough to offer depth to more experienced fliers. The Mavic Mini is tiny, light, and relatively cheap, which means there are some trade-offs to be made on features. This is not a Mavic, certainly not a Mavic Pro, not even a Mavic Air. It uses USB-A for charging instead of the more modern and more versatile USB-C, for example. Still, you get quite a lot of cinematic and flying power.

I'm very disappointed in the MA2 (love the MM2, but different class of drone). While I fly it a fair amount, it's mostly to get to features that aren't available on the MA1 (hyperlapse being something I use a lot on the MA2). The MA2 would be perfect if it was the same as it is -- basically a smaller Mavic Pro 1 with a better camera -- but with all the features of the MA1, plus (i.e. product advancement). The Air 2 is a little bit better suited to difficult environments, with an operating range of -10˚ to 40˚C while, on the spec sheet at least, the Mini 2 bottoms out at freezing point.Vision positioning requires non-reflective, discernable surfaces, and adequate lighting. Available at altitudes from 0.5-30 m. The vertical and horizontal positioning accuracy is within ±0.1 m. With a video transmission of up to 10km, the Mini 2 boosts its range by 150% when compared to the original. We would love to be able to say we pushed it to its limits, but unlike our experiences with the Mavic Mini, in the same Drone-safe area, we couldn’t legally fly high or far enough to get the connection to waver on the Mini 2, which is pretty great going. DJI Mini 2 review: DJI Fly App

When plugged in, the controller charges your phone, with its 2,600mAh battery delivering ample juice for a couple of hours of flight time. As for the Mini itself, its batteries are 2,400mAh, with a quoted flight time of 30 minutes, depending on environment and usage. We found this to be roughly on the money, though flying primarily in Sports mode shaves a few minutes off the flight time. Multiple wide-angle vision sensors work seamlessly with a high-performance vision computing engine to sense obstacles in all directions precisely and plan a safe flight route that avoids them. There are people who might be averse to buying a DJI drone, for any variety of reasons, in which case the Autel EVO and Parrot Anafi are good alternatives. The EVO has a built-in display in its remote, so you don't have to connect your smartphone for flight, and the Anafi offer USB charging for its battery—something you don't get with any Mavic drone.

I was impressed with the original Mavic Mini and am even more delighted with the upgrades that the Mini 2 boasts. The updated motors really make all the difference as far as general noise and acceleration are concerned. Lately, it's been windy where I live, and the drone handled gusts quite well, delivering smooth footage and crisp images. Where the app excels for power users is the expanded menu, accessible by hitting the three dots in the top right. This is where max altitude and distance can be set, as well as your Mini 2’s home point. The bump in video resolution from 2.7K to 4K is welcome. Sure, technically, there’s no reason we can think of that 4K capture wasn’t built into last year's model, but in well-lit scenes, the extra recorded pixels mean more scope for zooms and crops. You'll just have to do it the old-fashioned way: by practicing and becoming a better drone pilot. I strongly suggest starting in an empty field, well away from obstacles. As you get better you can attempt more difficult scenarios.
