About this deal

Shiraz contributes a rich, mid-palate fruit sweetness and plush fruitweight, enhanced by well-balanced structural oak and long, supportive Cabernet tannins. I AM a self-confessed Game of Thrones addict and had read all the books way before the series came to our screens. Therefore, I have to admit I was a touch sceptical about the launch of a red wine to coincide with HBO’s House of the Dragon, a prequel following the history of the Targaryen family 100 or so years before Daenerys encountered the White Walkers; but I should not have worried. According to Delish, the wine is bottled by a division of Vintage Wine Estates cleverly calling itself Seven Kingdoms Cellars in honor of the kingdoms of Westeros.

Ben Blake, Head of Marketing EMEA at Treasury Wine Estates, adds; “Wolf Blass was born from the spirit of its founder to never settle but soar above the rest. The opportunity to therefore partner with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on a House of the Dragon-inspired wine was a no brainer. House of the Dragon wines includes a vintage 2020 Red Wine, 2021 Pinot Noir and 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. For fans of Games of Throne (GOT), the wait for the fantasy drama's much-anticipated prequel House of Dragon is still not yet over, but "a taste" in the drama series is now made available in the form of namesake wine range launched by Vintage Wine Estates and Warner Bros. Tasting Notes - Dense, rich and jammy with scents of cherry tobacco and vanilla crème and a long, mouth coating finish with just a hint of sweetness. The grapes were fermented in a combination of small open-top fermenters and stainless steel fermenting tanks, with selected yeasts propagated from cellars in Burgundy. It was pressed during the last days of fermentation and matured in a combination of small French oak barrels and larger stainless steel tanks for eight months.

The wines are released two months ahead of HBO’s premier of House of the Dragon on August 21. Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series, which is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen. Julian Moon, Senior Vice President, Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEAsaid, “We wanted to bring fans of the Game of Thrones franchise a wine aligned with the world of Westeros and with the anticipated premiere of House of the Dragon this summer, we knew this was the perfect time for such a wine. Wolf Blass has made something truly special, and we know fans will enjoy sipping Wolf Blass’ Fire & Blood Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz while tuning in to House of the Dragon this August.”Vintage Wine Estates, one of the fastest-growing wine producers in the U.S. with an industry leading direct-to-customer platform, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products have released a selection of House of the Dragon wines, consisting of three wines, in celebration of “Day of the Dragon”. A classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz matured with a mix of French and American oak. The Cabernet brings elegance to the blend while Shiraz adds fruit depth and a velvety richness to the palate. A multi-district South Australian blend sourced from premium grape growing regions including Wrattonbully, the Barossa, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale. A formidable bold blend that brings to life the crimson majesty of a dragon’s fire. Rich in dark fruit with hints of leather and spice, the elegant structure of Cabernet Sauvignon combines with the brooding fruit depth of shiraz in a full-bodied balance of intensity and character. Best enjoyed while watching dragons soar. The garnet-colored wine has aromatics of tart red cherry and cranberry, followed by subtle earthy and savory notes. The palate is medium-bodied, with silky textures and bright red fruit that shows a bit darker in profile than the nose. It’s 13.5% ABV.
