About this deal

One area where film and digital trend very differently is dynamic range (DR)--in film higher iso generally leads to (significantly) increased DR and reduced resolution, while it is the opposite in digital where DR is greatest at low iso and resolution hardly changes. In times of film photography there was a rule to either use ISO 100 film (or even great Velvia 50) which usually had considerably less grain noise than ISO 400 film. One reason is that changing ISO is trivial now; I can choose ISO 200 for a particular shot with the press of a button and flick of a dial (or going into a menu), rather than committing to it until I change film. Whenever you amplify a signal you also amplify the sensor noise caused by thermal and semiconductor shot noise. also allows half the shutter speed compared to 200, which can help if you want intentional motion blur on water or other moving objects.

There were also issues with all these early standards as film manufacturers would creatively use whichever sub-version gave their chemistry the best results! The exposure triangle is a fundamental concept in photography that refers to the relationship between three key elements: aperture, shutter speed, and film (or sensor) sensitivity. Because we’re using a specific shutter speed and aperture for this shot, ISO is the setting we adjust to get the perfect exposure. So, tweaking exposure generally has noisier results than correctly exposing your shot in the first place.

With dual gain cameras, like my a7iii, I shoot only ISO 100 and 640 as these are the base ISO’s that give the best dynamic range. From breathtaking landscapes to captivating portraits and dynamic street photography, this film empowers you to create art that truly impresses.

A high ISO film, such as 400 or 800, results in brighter images in low-light environments but can introduce more grain in the photo.Advantages: Very, very long, almost perfectly straight-line characteristic curve, great latitude made it ideal for variable developments, both longer and shorter, water-bath development, special compensating formulas. This was often expressed as degree fractions of ten - like 15°/10 - and became the best-used European-based standard until the 1980s.

Smear is a result of artifacts replicated in both channels which are perceived to be in the middle, causing the stereo image to collapse. Nasim, you wrote ‘it is better to use ISO 800 when necessary, rather than brightening an ISO 100 photo .ISO film speeds are an important part of film photography as each film speed is used for different scenarios and lighting conditions. Similarly, if you’re using a fast shutter speed to capture action, it’s essentially the same as taking pictures in a dark environment (since you strictly limit the amount of time your camera sensor is able to capture light). If you don’t see a button labeled “ISO”, it is still possible that your camera will let you program one to perform this task. In digital cameras, changing the ISO is as simple as moving a dial - and these days there are all kinds of clever software shortcuts that allow the same physical sensor to capture at higher effective ISO than you would expect. I once read an article that ISO 200 was the lowest sensitivity available in film I am curious about this article.
