About this deal

The first thing I love about this set is the club selection. As a coach to beginners, it can often be confusing for new players who turn up with 14 clubs and ask what are they all supposed to do, as often they have 4 or 5 clubs in the bag that do exactly the same thing.

DRIVER - 13 ° high launch titanium matrix driver. Higher loft encourages higher, straighter ball flights for amateur's swings. Headcover included. For newcomers to the game of golf, it’s important not to overlook quality when selecting your first set of clubs. IRONS - 6-7-8-9-PW - Undercut cavity stainless steel irons. Promoting forgiveness on mis-hit shots, and great feel when they come out the middle The driver also feels a little dead off the face, with the noise replicating a loud thud, rather than the satisfying sound you get from other golf clubs. However, if you are a beginner to the game, then you may not be worried about the noise, and might be more concerned about propelling the ball forward. SW stainless steel irons with graphite shafts and undercut cavity to keep the centre of gravity low and deep for improved launch and better ball flight

Wilson Stretch Golf Club Set

It's a similar story with the 10-club set of the MacGregor CG3000, as the driver, irons and putter are a particular stand out. Again, the fairway woods and hybrid perform well, but don't feel overly fast, and we would customise the putter if we had the choice by adding one of the best putter grips to enhance the comfort and control. Which one should you choose?

When we first got our hands on the McGregor CG300 set, we were immediately impressed by the design. These clubs look great. They look like a premium set with a modern design and feel. They are also weighted very well for beginners. The 460cc driver is set to 13 degrees of loft. The perimeter weighting of the club effectively broadens the sweet spot. All of these brilliant golf clubs come in a durable and luxury MacGregor golf stand bag that comes with three matching head covers and a dual strap design which makes it even easier to carry these golf clubs around your local golf course. Driver (Graphite) A 460cc titanium driver featuring an oversized design for greater forgiveness on off-centre hits. SHAFTS - Graphite shafts in the woods. Graphite/Steel shafts in the irons. All mens regular/Stiff flex. The putter was another nice surprise, reminding us of a mix between an Odyssey #7 fang and the Rose Axis1 - it's somewhere in between those two. Overall, this set is hard to fault for what it does, which is allow golfers to get out onto the course and experience this great game. At this price tag you're never going to get the perfect set of clubs but we were seriously impressed with what has to be one of the best golf club sets you can buy. We did feel that the upper end of the bag lets the set down slightly though. The woods and the driver feel a bit more unforgiving and whippier (in the shaft) than the irons. As we touched on in the previous section, the McGregor CG300 comes with either graphite or stainless steel shafts. The MacGregor V-Foil #4 takes a very similar appearance to the more well-known Spider putter from TaylorMade. Unlike the the Spider the price tag of the MacGregor is considerably less.

The CG3000 set has a 13 degree driver, which sends the ball high and is a perfect amount of loft for a beginner that tends to swing the club slower. It also feels fantastic off the face, lively and reassuringly solid. The irons also have a superb amount of forgiveness, something that is needed for those starting out in the game, whilst the wedges and putters felt surprisingly responsive too. A slight negative is the fairway wood and hybrid, which didn't feel as springy off the face as we'd have liked. MacGregor have done a brilliant job putting together the perfect set of clubs for a player just starting their golfing journey. Speaking of the face, when you look down on this putter you can see the metal face insert that includes the ARC Tech face milling that aims to provide an improved roll and distance control. On either side of this is two yellow rubber inserts. I wasn’t sure what would happen to the ball upon colliding with these but after a couple of purposeful toe strikes, I didn’t really see any difference in roll or distance. FAIRWAY WOOD - Low profile 18 ° fairway wood with headcover. Fairway is perfect for more controlled, shorter tee shots, and the The putter MacGregor have included in this set is brilliant. It has a great shape, good alignment aids, and a really nice weight to the head that lets the putter swing nicely. The Strata Plus complete set features a #4 hybrid, irons 5 through PW, a heel to toe weighted putter and a 460cc driver set to 10.5 degrees of loft. Pros: The driver is set at 10.5 degrees, with the fairway wood at 15. As it is a set designed for beginners, perhaps Wilson could have added a few more degrees as it can be quite difficult for the less skilled player to get the ball in the air. Loading...
