About this deal

Me vs Brain: An Overthinker’s Guide to Life is more small thoughts in different situations. Like when you are at the hairdresser’s and you look at all your imperfections in the mirror that highlights everything. Wow, my eyes are not quite level, is my nose really that wide, etc? To me, these are just random thoughts, not overthinking. A fresh, laugh-out-loud take on 21st-century high-functioning anxiety, Hayley Morris's honest and easy-to-read debut is a joy. It's a zeitgeist novel for our times, exposing just how normal it is to feel abnormal... Morris' insightful narrative to modern life feels like confessing to a best friend. Hayley Morris is most definitely an author to watch. Press Association

In this book, I've overthought absolutely everything so you don't have to. I'll be talking about everything from dating to discharge, mental health to menstrual cups. I might not be able to banish your anxiety or make you feel 100% comfortable in your skin, but I hope I can at least give you a break from the constant brain chatter and we can rejoice and laugh at how similar we actually all are. For the first couple of chapters, it's interesting and relatable. After that the novelty wears off and it's essentially a comedic autobiography that's more cringe than funny. Its bodily functions. Periods, farts, poop, with input from brain, heart, uterus and others. Then it goes into dating, breakups and towards the end takes a darker turn with a family death and therapy. No heakene küll. A noh, moodsad, tõtlikud ajad. It was a fun and emotional ride. It's true that I can relate with many situations but other are just too much anxiety.Mulle jäi Hayley Morris millalgi Youtubes silma, tal on nimelt palju väga tabavaid elulisi lühivideosid. Kuna sarnasel puhul ühe teise juutuuberi raamat (Kristina Kuzmic "Hold On, But Don't Hold Still: Hope and Humor from My Seriously Flawed Life") oli väga lahe, siis mõtlesin, et proovin järgi. And I have to say it was both enjoyable and at points (even though I don’t go through life as a woman) relatable, due to the authors way of explaining how she overthinks most of the time. genuinely though gets better throughout and the dad chapters are the most thoughtful and genuine - kind of wish it had more of that vibe than the script style of the rest of it

Hello there! Hayley Morris here. Or you might know me as the Brain Girl, and don’t be fooled – it’s not because I’m outrageously smart. Just an avid overthinker. In this book, I’ve overthought absolutely everything so you don’t have to. I’ll be talking about dating to discharge, mental health to menstrual cups. I might not be able to banish your anxiety or make you feel 100% comfortable in your skin, but I hope I can at least give you a break from the constant brain chatter and we can rejoice and laugh at how similar we actually all are. See raamat on täis erinevaid piinlikku olukordi, millest paras osa jääb küll meile kahe kõrva vahele, samas nii mõnigi kipub ikka päriselu segama. I used to assume I was a little freak because I was always up to really weird things - conversations with myself, routines, rituals and games - that no one else seemed to do. Perhaps there’s something wrong with me, I thought. Eventually, after a lot of thinking, I realised that there are almost eight billion people on earth, and surely we’re mostly doing the same things as each other…. We are all human after all.’

Also, the audio quality for the 'voices' of various body parts was really bad, and really 'tinny' - not what I would expect from an audio book. Calling all avid overthinkers, this funny and honest book is here to give you a break from the constant brain chatter. Stylist Whispering Stories was established in 2015. Ikka huvitav, kuidas inimkeha funktsioneerib.... To me, this means things like lying in bed of a night time replaying the day’s events or more worryingly running through scenarios in your head of things that most likely will never happen. Such as, if I let my child go into town on their own this weekend will someone hurt them, or take them? And then thinking about all things to do with that for the next few hours, kind of scenarios. Hello! Hayley Morris here. You might have seen me on your feed dressed up as a vagina. People seem to find me quite funny. I'm on a mission to prove once and for all that You. Are. Not. A. Weirdo... Or, maybe, We. Are. All. Weirdos. Yes, you're not the only one whose body does that gross thing you've never even told your mum about. And yes, we're all walking around saying embarrassing things constantly and waking up in a cold sweat at 3am thinking about them. So we might as well have a laugh about it, right?

However, the more this book went on, the more it felt so over the top and made topics that should be really important, feel really trivialised. Hayley Morris's debut is a fresh, very funny take on 21st-century high-functioning anxiety... an insightful, intimate account of modern life that is a joy to read, with shades of Dolly Alderton's Everything I Know about Love Scarlett Sangster, iNews The books chapters are as snappy in comedy as the shorts I discovered her in and then hearing the last few chapters brought in a hard case of reality and how special life can be. Now, I’m not going to dispute that the book is funny but I’m also not going to say that this book is about overthinking as it isn’t about overthinking in the way the dictionary states overthinking is –‘think about (something) too much or for too long’. Thoughts that go on and on.
