About this deal

His mother Maude, a seamstress from Jamaica, wanted a better life and couldn’t make up her mind whether to set out for the US or UK, and I became fascinated by the concept of what would have happened to the former US Secretary of State if he’d come to Britain. On the docks of Leningrad in 1968, Alexander Karpenko lives under the iron fist of the Soviet regime. As for the ending, well, I cannot spoil it for you because I am not sure what happened; I cannot tell you who lives and who dies although the final line reveals the identity of one character who has been alluded to throughout.

To summarise, if that is possible: it was a great read with a slightly questionable ending – perhaps there was a publisher’s deadline looming? And when I last asked him, he didn’t sound at all optimistic about getting a ticket, so Uncle Kolya is now my only hope. Conventional straighteners or relaxers may break the protein bonds within the hair’s structure, causing each strand to reform into a permanently straight shape. Disclaimer: This is a companion guide based on the work Heads You Win: A Novel by Jeffrey Archer and is not affiliated to the original work or author in any way.Look forward to showing you the British and American covers soon – and to hearing which you like the most. That element of fantasy requires the reader to suspend disbelief, but the twinned stories are so absorbing that I easily accepted the premise that made them possible. The two versions of the main character were great, until they started crossing paths in various manners.

Doesn't dampen my enjoyment of the rest of the story but it did cause me to knock off that one star.Taking a single character and writing about the two paths his life could have gone down just didn't work for me -- it seemed muddled and the ending was confusing and left too many questions.

I loved Archer's Clifton Chronicles series and looked forward to reading his newest book, but this one was a let down. I really liked this book, but I had to take a star away because I am just confused about the ending.Whereas I can’t even be sure of getting into university, and if I don’t, my chances of joining the KGB are kaput. Elena bides her time but does not sit idly by, as she creates an empire all her own and proves to be almost a second protagonist in the larger story.

Lord Archer is here to tell the reader exactly what might have happened, offering sensational parallels in the lives of these two, as well as contrasting their great differences.Alexander’s father works at the docks in Leningrad and is assassinated by the KGB for starting a trade union amongst the dockworkers. Archer cannibalizes his greatest hits (including Kane and Abel and First Among Equals) even as he emulates the ’60s bestsellers of Harold Robbins and Jacqueline Susann to tell his twinned stories of immigrant striving, romance, and dirty dealing, with a surprise last-sentence kicker that points to the present political moment.
