About this deal

If you are getting a lot of sensitivity from one tooth I would recommend you see a dental professional who can exclude any problems with the tooth. They might also be able to offer treatments, depending on the cause of the sensitivity, such as applying a professional varnish, or repairing the tooth with filling material. Any advice I give is without assessing you and doesn’t replace advice given by your own dentist. All except two [ 34, 39] of the nine studies reported on the regression of white spot lesions in orthodontic patients. This body of evidence, containing seven clinical studies [ 33, 35– 38, 40, 41] of variable strength of evidence utilised either visual scoring or fluorescence techniques for the assessment of dental caries. Some were compared with placebo pastes and others with different preventive products and/or control groups. Of these seven studies, four showed a significant advantage from the use of Tooth Mousse® in the regression of white spot lesions in orthodontic patients over 12 weeks to 6 months [ 33, 37, 38, 40]. Parnell C, Gugnani N, Sherriff A, James P, Beirne P. Non-fluoride topical remineralising agents containing calcium and/or phosphate for controlling dental caries (Protocol). Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2012(3). S. mutans was cultivated in the presence of different dilutions of the tooth mousse containing CPP-ACP or CPP-ACPF, and the planktonic growth was determined by ATP viability assay and counting colony-forming units (CFUs). The resulting biofilms were examined by crystal violet staining, MTT metabolic assay, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results The table below shows which pastes contain Stannuous Fluroide, and which ones contain Potassium Nitrate. Stannous Fluoride

Tooth Mousse Plus® (MI Paste Plus®) contains 900 parts per million fluoride in a molar ratio with the calcium and phosphate of 5 calcium, 3 phosphate and 1 fluoride which is reported by Reynolds and co-workers as the ideal ratio for building fluorapatite [ 18, 19]. The general decline in dental caries that has occurred may have led to some complacency amongst the dental team when considering the impact preventive care can have on patients. This conundrum is demonstrated in a study which found that 25 % of children initially caries free developed caries over the following three years and those with one carious lesion were five times more likely to develop more lesions when compared with those free of the disease [ 6]. Therefore professionals who only provide preventive advice to those with dental caries will be doing a disservice to many patients. Zheng H, Thomas PA. For night time protection boosting the levels of bio-available calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions needed for remineralisation and prevention. The secret of GC Tooth Mousse is base on Recaldent™. This ingredient, derived from the milk protein, casein, has a tooth protective effect. Research has shown that this activity is due to a part of the casein protein called Casein Phosphopeptide (or CPP), which carries calcium and phosphate ions in the form of Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (or ACP).* Kargul B, Altinok B, Welbury R. The effect of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate on enamel surface rehardening. An in vitro study. Eur J Paediatric Dent. 2012;13(2):123–7. Tooth Mousse® ("GC"; MI Paste, GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) and Tooth Mousse Plus® ("GCP"; MI Paste Plus) which contain CPP-ACP and CPP-ACPF, respectively, were resuspended in brain–heart infusion broth (BHI, Acumedia, Lansing, Michigan, USA) or BHI containing 2% sucrose (BHIS) to a concentration of 10%. Then serial dilutions were done in BHI for planktonic bacterial growth or BHIS for biofilm formation studies. The suspension of the tooth mousse in BHI and BHIS had a neutral pH of 7. Planktonic growth of Streptococcus mutans

Krithikadatta et al. [ 39] carried out a pilot study on 45 adolescent dental students with occlusal white spot lesions, comparing Tooth Mousse® and Tooth Mousse Plus® to a 0.5 % fluoride mouthrinse. All three groups showed highly significant remineralising potential over the 30 day test period, but Tooth Mousse® and Tooth Mousse Plus® were significantly more effective than the fluoride mouthrinse. Alexandrino LD, Alencar CM, Silveira A, Alves EB, Silva CM. Randomized clinical trial of the effect of NovaMin and CPP-ACPF in combination with dental bleaching. J Appl Oral Sci. 2017;25(3):335–40. Participants valued having a comfortable mouth with strong teeth, which did not require repeated restorations. Seeing concrete results in their mouths and experiencing a more comfortable mouth boosted adherence to daily applications of TMP, which was maintained over time. The initial literature search on CPP-ACP yielded a huge number (7576) of publications, however a close scrutiny of the results identified 172 articles that were worthy detailed inspections. Ultimately, 20 articles were selected but eight studies (Table 2) were excluded, giving just 12 papers to consider, three focusing on prevention and nine on controlling dental caries. MI Paste Plus to prevent demineralization in orthodontic patients: a prospective randomized controlled trial. Am J Orthod Dentofac Orthopedics. 2011;140(5):660–8. If the research data for the prevention of dental caries is assessed, two of the studies [ 31, 32] which were randomised controlled trials (over 12 and 24 months respectively), reported that Tooth Mousse® did not offer a benefit in terms of a reduction in dental caries for young children over brushing with a fluoride toothpaste. Whilst the third prevention study [ 30] reported enamel demineralisation (over a relatively short period of 60 days) in a group of orthodontic patients and once again a fluoride product performed just as well as Tooth Mousse®. Therefore, it would be unwise to recommend Tooth Mousse® (MI Paste®) for the prevention dental caries. Tenani CF, De Checchi MHR, Bado FMR, Ju X, Jamieson L, Mialhe FL. Influence of oral health literacy on dissatisfaction with oral health among older people. Gerodontology. 2020;37(1):46–52.

When I was younger, I went to the dentist near where I live but, about ten years ago, my parents found a different dentist: he was good. He was kind of different from other dentists; he would not just fix your teeth. He was more about looking at how to prevent deterioration in your mouth. At that time, he said take this product [TMP] to rebuild your enamel (ID9, male, 25–34 years old, dental caries). Experiences of oral health after becoming a regular user of TMP articles were identified, but the majority were duplicates. Once these were removed 172 articles were inspected and the focus on ‘CPP-ACP formulations of Tooth Mousse® (MI Paste®) and Tooth Mousse Plus® (MI Paste Plus®) resulted in 29 articles being selected, and of these 12 studies met the inclusion criteria and were considered acceptable for the systematic review. Discussion GC Tooth Mousse Plus® contains RECALDENT® (CPP-ACP); Casein Phosphopeptide (CPP) are natural occurring molecules which are able to release calcium and phosphate ions and stabilize Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), which is also the source of calcium and phosphate. RECALDENT® (CPP-ACP) is a special milk-derived protein that can help decrease dentin hypersensitivity Dental treatment: Tooth whitening can cause temporary sensitivity. Professional cleaning and fillings can also lead to sensitivity. These products are based on the pioneering work of Professor Eric Reynolds and his team at the University of Melbourne Dental School [ 15], who developed Recaldent®(CPP-ACP technology). Tooth Mousse® (MI Paste®) contains 10 % of the Recaldent® molecule by weight. Calcium phosphopeptide (CPP) is a milk derived protein able to bind calcium and phosphate ions, and stabilise them as amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP). CPP-ACP adheres intra-orally to plaque pellicle, hydroxyapatite as well as soft tissues. It supplies bioavailable calcium and phosphate into saliva and plaque fluid enabling it to drive remineralisation [ 16]. In vitro studies demonstrate that when placed on the surface of a tooth, CPP-ACP interacts with hydrogen ions and can diffuse into enamel where it produces subsurface mineral gains [ 17]. The Deep Clean variety is a gel as opposed to a paste, and additional ingredients compared to the original flavour include Pentasodium Triphosphate and SLS!

This study was designed to understand how everyday adult Australians became regular users of GC Tooth Mousse Plus ® (TMP). To the best of our knowledge, there is no detailed data on the characteristics of regular users of TMP; hence the context of this study is based on data from oral health population surveys, as described below. Although it prevents the message being passed on, it does not treat the cause of sensitivity, so you could develop sensitivity once again. Decide whether to go for SLS-Free. This is worth considering if you suffer from sore gums or ulcers. I go into more detail in my post on the best SLS-Free toothpastes. Anecdotally the treatments work, and there seems to be a lot of evidence from manufacturers, but there is only limited evidence when reviewed independently by the Cochrane Collaboration. Stannous Fluoride The longer I use it [TMP], the less problems I had with things like tooth decay. My dentist hasn’t had to do a filling for me now for over two years.
