The level of detail achieved on these lead & resin pieces will appeal to anyone, even the players who are not fans of the LOTR story. The chessboard is a magnificent work of art detailing the story of Frodo throughout his incredible journey. An ancient map of Middle-earth is mounted below the playing surface. The 32 chess pieces are unique figurines, handcrafted by master sculptors in metallic resin. Character likenesses, attire and weaponry have been meticulously reproduced down to the finest detail.

The Lord of the Rings series is a franchise unlike any other. Chess is one of the best games ever invented. At some point, someone was going to have a brilliant idea to combine the game and the love that fans have for the story. The story that inspired the Lord of the Rings chess pieces opens in The Shire – a land similar to rural England. Frodo Baggins inherits the mysterious ring from his cousin, Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo's connection to the Ring is recounted in "The Hobbit". The one ring was originally forged thousands of years before by Sauron to exercise dominance over other rings of power, and to corrupt all who would wear the rings. The ring is taken from Sauron by Isildur who is then killed by orcs. The ring is lost in the River Anduin, where it lies for two thousand years until discovered by a river dwelling hobbit, Deagol. Thus the stage is set for a meandering tale of danger, valour, and eventual good over evil. The Eaglemoss version comes with a booklet that introduces you to the series and gives character introductions for each of the pieces. Each of the pieces measures between 2-3 inches in height. The pieces are all carved out in perfect precision to resemble the actors who played the characters in the films. The board is an authorized chess set approved by all of the actors, which is why it is as accurate as possible. The 32 chess pieces are beautifully crafted pieces portraying a Lord of the Rings character in the epic final battle for Middle-earth. The best part about this chess set, however, is the pieces' design. All the familiar characters from the films are present in the collection of the pieces. The characters are painstakingly reproducedfor a level of perfection that is rare. All pawn pieces on each side are played using the same character. A pair of a single character represents the knight, bishops and rook pairs. The design makes it easy to know which character plays which part, unlike the other boards on this lost.
