About this deal

The Lord said to Moses, 24 “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. 25 Do not do any of your ordinary work, but present a food offering to the Lord. ’” The Day of Atonement To illustrate this point Jesus goes onto tell the parable of the unmerciful servant or we might call it the parable of the very generous King. In it we see the king discovering the debt of one of his servants, and yet despite the extravagant size of the debt, we are talking more than a lifetime of earnings debt here, he cancels it. He completely wipes it out!

There is a great mystery here that we must submit to: even though God ordained the cross, down to minute details ( e.g. casting lots for Jesus’ clothing), He is not in any way responsible for the sin of those who crucified Jesus. As Acts 4:27, 28 puts it: “For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur.” And yet despite this call to forgive and the benefits of forgiving, it is not easy because it is rarely instantaneous. It requires us on a daily basis, choosing not to seek revenge or to punish those who have wronged us and that hurts. Take time today to thank Jesus for dying for you. Jesus paid a very high price for our forgiveness. Forgiveness is not easy, but Jesus made it possible. Total forgiveness! This is the heart of Jesus’ teaching here and it comes about because Peter has once again opened his big mouth. The author piles up a number of synonymous phrases which show either negatively what the Law with its sacrifices could not do, or positively what Christ’s sacrifice did accomplish. Note: The author wraps up this section with a supporting quote: 4. The Old Testament prophecy of the new covenant supports the totality of our forgiveness (10:15-18). Imagine a young man who falls in love, but he and his lover are separated by distance. He has a beautiful photograph of her that he gazes at every day. Finally, the two get married. The photo is still there, but now he has her. From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. 16 Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the Lord. 17 From wherever you live, bring two loaves made of one fifth of an ephah of the finest flour, baked with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits to the Lord. 18 Present with this bread seven male lambs, each a year old and without defect, one young bull and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the Lord, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings —a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. 19 Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering and two lambs, each a year old, for a fellowship offering. 20 The priest is to wave the two lambs before the Lord as a wave offering, together with the bread of the firstfruits. They are a sacred offering to the Lord for the priest. 21 On that same day you are to proclaim a sacred assembly and not do any ordinary work. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.

revival in my church. I had to choose which meant more to megetting even with someone who had hurt one of my children or In other words, Peter’s offer to forgive 7 times would be considered extremely generous, going above and beyond the call of the day. How do the Catholic teachings on purgatory and penance completely undermine the gospel of God’s grace in Christ?

Psalm 32:1-11

And finally,” she says, “I want a third thing. This is also the wish of my husband. And so, I would kindly ask someone to come to my side and lead me across the courtroom so that I can take Mr van der Broek in my arms and embrace him and let him know that he is truly forgiven.”

The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘These are my appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. The Sabbath David describes the spiritual agony of not being forgiven: ‘My bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer’ (vv.3–4).

Again, we see Jesus’ death foreshadowed. Forgiveness of sins requires sacrifice; it requires a lamb. The lamb must be perfect, ‘without defect’ (Leviticus 23:12). St Paul describes Jesus as ‘our Passover lamb \[who\] has been sacrificed’ (1 Corinthians 5:7). Everything in this book was at best nothing new. I often disagreed with the author. He's one of those who idolizes Joseph in Genesis, to the point of making up details and presenting them as facts. He referred to Joseph as "a type of Christ". So then why is it that Judah, not Joseph, became an ancestor of Christ? I'm prepared to argue the case in detail, so don't get me started. I got the impression the author slanted Joseph's story to suit his own opinions, or the opinion he'd like to have. It's as if Kendall's trying to convince himself that his own sins will be swept under the carpet, too.
