About this deal

The Prefecture of Police was created there, the Prefecture of Police, a century earlier, to replace the Lieutenancy General of Police. Manon Dumais (2 April 2021). "«Paris police 1900»: le côté sombre de la Belle Époque". Le Devoir . Retrieved 19 November 2021. Canal + is broadcasting this Monday at 9:05 pm the last two episodes of Paris Police 1900. A series that combines historical characters and fictional protagonists. Refined, pungent, poignant, suspenseful and full of troubled characters, Paris Police 1905 is looking bigger and better, as it depicts extremes of wealth and poverty, the hypocrisy of the clergy, a broken bourgeoisie and, basically, a city in turmoil. Superb work from screenwriter Fabien Nury. Let us know what you think. Nury: What I like about this Noir approach to history is that it suggests that things were not better before. Yes, there’s a nostalgia about the past. But progress has been made since. This helps me to remain optimistic. Yesterday was hell but we survived. Maybe we can do something about today.

It is in particular within the police headquarters that" what will become forensic science was born ", notes Jean-Marc Berlière. Paris Police 1900” is produced by Emmanuel Daucé for Tetra Media Fiction and Nury for A.F.P.I. Varietytalked to Nury and Françoise Guyonnet, Studiocanal executive managing director of TV, in the run-up to the show’s bow: There are some surprisingly brutal scenes (not necessarily for the squeamish, which you'll realise from the opening scene), and a couple of slightly suggestive sexual moments. It doesn't do what so many period dramas do these days - have 21st century people with 21st century attitudes in costume. Of course we can't know for sure but the people in this behave and think like people in 1905 probably did. Violence, corruption, the acceptance of gaping inequality is not criticised like we would now, it's just normal, it's accepted.President Félix Faure has just handed over the weapon to the left, tensions between anarchist groups and anti-Semitic and nationalist leagues have never been so strong. I thought this was a solid sequel. While it isn't essential to have seen 'Paris Police 1900' it certainly does help as that introduces certain key characters. The story is interesting, as are the characters. The series captures the feel of the era with some atmospheric camera work and period references; I particularly enjoyed the senior officer in his new car... pure 'Mr Toad'! The cast did an impressive job bringing the characters to life. Overall I'd certainly recommend this, especially to anybody who enjoyed the previous series. In the troubled political context of the Dreyfus affair, she follows the investigation into the sordid criminal case of the bloody trunk. But there are no major improbabilities ”, judge Arnaud-Dominique Houte, professor at the Sorbonne and police specialist in the 19th century *.

In fact, she really helped me because I was on set almost every day. So she was observing what I was doing and giving me all these pointers. On top of this, she's very impressive, because in real life, she has a strong Canadian accent. But when she acts in French, it's like she presses a button, boom, switches to French, instantly, you couldn't tell!" Do you know much about season 3? Will there be another time jump? A high-end, crafted slice of 1899 Parisian Noir unspooling as the capital seethes with anti-Semitism, violence, riots, conspiracy and the customary women’s subjugation of the age, Canal Plus Création Originale “Paris Police 1900” offers a different take to painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Antoine Jouin is based on Louis-François Jouin, who was a real investigator at the time. How do you prepare for this role? He explained: "Obviously you don't have access to any videos or recordings because they didn't exist. What I like, is you can look at pictures and it's a snapshot but you don't know what happened before or after. So it's already the beginning of the creative work of the actor, to imagine.

The era between 1871 and 1914 was retroactively dubbed La Belle Époque (The Golden Age) after World War I. La Belle Époque gave us the Paris most of us know, from the Eiffel Tower to the Impressionists. It was a time of great cultural leaps, and also, less known, social upheaval. One thing that you must know about going into the series is The Dreyfus Affair. Factually, the affair was this: A Jewish gunner in the French army was accused of selling secrets to the Germans, who were wrestling with France over the Alsace region at the time. Dreyfus was rushed through trial, found guilty and sent to Devil’s Island. Later, the true culprit was found, yet Dreyfus was AGAIN found guilty, but the sentence was commuted. He returned to the Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after fighting in WWI. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – Paris Police 1905 is the closest thing I’ve (ever) seen to a TV version of a novel. It’s so densely layered, so engrossing and the characters are so brilliantly written, you just can’t put it down or, in this case, stop watching. The programme will air in French with subtitles, and each episode is 53 minutes in extent. Paris Police 1905 aired on Canal+ in December 2022.

But that would not have disoriented a spectator of 1900 because the press of the time loved to enter into macabre details".But, at that time, only towns with more than 5,000 inhabitants were required to have a police force.
