About this deal

In addition, we recently unveiled two exclusive technologies. HAPTA, our handheld, ultra-precise makeup applicator device, allows us to expand beauty needs to people with limited hand and arm mobility. The other is L’Oréal Brow Magic, the first at-home electronic brow applicator that delivers customized brows. The metaverse has been a big focus of your digital transformation. What have you learned and what’s next? As Asmita mentioned, the metaverse is also about building a new ecosystem and offering our brands new possibilities to express themselves. We’re now partnering with OpenSea, the leading marketplace for NFT and digital collectibles, to explore loyalty on-chain. We are also in partnership with Meta, and with Station F, one of the world’s largest business incubators for start-ups, for us to help accelerate start-ups. To grow creativity and inclusivity in the metaverse and to help our brand tap into new opportunities, we have just selected five start-ups that are now in Station F. How do you think the metaverse can influence beauty in the real world?

To see the beauty in a woman’s rippling muscles is to embrace her strength but also to shun the notion that female beauty is equated with fragility and weakness. Pure physical power is stunning.

I think I was most surprised at the kind of devotion that a lot of people had. Like, even some of the people that were most critical of Glossier, who had worked there and it hadn’t gone well, or retail employees who felt like they were getting short shrift, those were often the people that were the biggest fans of Glossier and who were still really rooting for them in this very beautiful and sincere way. It really helped underscore this idea that you could have two differing feelings and notions about a place and a person and a brand. That was just very human, and especially with a company like Glossier that nurtured fandom so much, it’s hard to let go of that feeling. At first, I thought that the story of Emily Weiss and the story of Glossier were sort of one and the same, and that she had to be kind of the main character of the book, but in terms of reporting, most of the time and legwork was spent talking to people around her. So, you know, even though I’ve thought a lot about her and certainly interviewed her plenty and talked about her with other people, I would say the majority of my time was spent trying to talk to as many employees as I could. You know, for reporting, I always try to take the “the more people I can talk to, the better” kind of approach, because you never know who’s going to have a great memory or tell a really interesting story. For something like this, the perspective of retail employees who were in their early 20s in LA was very different from women on the marketing team, who were in their 30s in New York, even though maybe on the surface, people wouldn’t really see that as a huge divider culturally. Exuding self-motivation: Ambitious people don’t require as much external motivation, instead holding themselves accountable and taking action. That doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help. It just means you don’t need it as often and understand your own motivators enough to leverage them when you’re in a rut.

Ah, but beautiful! Beautiful was a description that was reserved for special cases, for genetic lottery winners. Beauty could even be a burden because it startled people. It intimidated them. Beauty was exceptional. You’re showing your ambitious side by learning everything you can about the topic, but now it’s time to put your knowledge to the test. Elle, Alek Wek Published by Elle magazine, 1997, Reprinted with permission of Hearst Magazines, Inc., Photography by Gilles Bensimon The original aim of AONBs when they were set up more than 70 years ago, was to preserve the UK’s finest landscapes and promote enjoyment. This developed into conserving, enhancing, and now, recovery is also a sad but much-needed ingredient. There is a movement to actively rest, renew and rather than conserve what we have. There is a constant balance to be made between encouraging tourism which boost the local economy, with the tolerances of nature and landscapes that provide the opportunities. Climate change Radiant, Moisturized & Youthful Skin - An indispensable nutrient for collagen production, our 100% pure & natural vitamin E oil is designed to visibly improve the look of scars, stretch marks, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots & sun spots for moisturized & youthful skin. According to the National Academy of Science d-alpha-tocopherol (natural vitamin e oil) has twice the bioavailability when compared to dl-alpa tocopherol (synthetic / fake vitamin E oil) so you get RESULTS TWICE AS FAST.This book is really well-researched and it tells a compelling story about Weiss and glossier in themselves, but it also has a lot of other things to say about broader topics—the fall of the female founder, what it means to be a lifestyle brand, how and why the beauty industry has changed over the last couple of decades, the “girlboss” phenomenon. The author’s thoughts on being “friends” of a brand or a founder in a capitalist economy are also really interesting. I’m not sure why I read this book when I’m more of an Urban Decay kinda gal makeup- and vibe-wise, a bit gothy and with absolutely zero interest in whatever effortless, is she or isn’t she, no makeup-makeup look Glossier was ever peddling. Hell, I prefer “effortful and she definitely is” - I don’t even believe in blending eyeliner, and my ideal mascara would probably be named something like Perverted Tarantula. But anywho, I read it because I love a business case study and especially one starring a woman in business, hell yes, let’s go for it! I’ll sit with it in the cafeteria and be its cool punk friend. Okay I loved this, I flew through it. I’ve never read the biography/history of a company or founder like this but I think the glossier brand is really interesting, and I’m now realizing Emily Weiss is maybe more interesting (who to be honest I could not have named as the founder before this (which I bet she would appreciate?)). The Kent Downs National Landscape will renew and widen our engagement and welcome to the millions of people who care for and enjoy the Kent Downs so more benefit, to make sure this unique place remains beautiful, distinct and characteristic, to ensure the landscape contributes its part to responding to the climate emergency and renew and recover the nature which relies on the Downs. We have a strong and supportive local partnership joining and supporting the journey. But on a powerfully emotional level, being perceived as attractive means being welcomed into the cultural conversation. You are part of the audience for advertising and marketing. You are desired. You are seen and accepted. When questions arise about someone’s looks, that’s just another way of asking: How acceptable is she? How relevant is she? Does she matter?

Second, there is a strong interest in the possibilities of metaverse commerce. People are ready to spend money on a monthly basis to invest in beauty opportunities and brands, specifically brand-led virtual experiences. How does the metaverse, especially the immersive experience side, impact your brands? Do your friends shrug off goal-setting, or do they share your enthusiasm for growth and hard work? Your social health impacts your attitude, so be mindful of who you hang out with. Surround yourself with like-minded people who share your focus. This might mean making new friends as an adult to find the right mix of people who motivate and inspire you. 2. Be punctual Organize your schedule and manage your time to ensure you’re not late or keeping others waiting. Things like job interviews and coffee with mentors demand that you’re on time and prepared. But your loved ones deserve the same level of respect — even for casual things. Punctuality means you’re intentional with your time. 3. Learn from your mistakes Moss was disruptive to the beauty system, but she was still well within the industry’s comfort zone of defining beauty as a white, European conceit. So too were the youthquake models of the 1960s such as Twiggy, who had the gangly, curveless physique of a 12-year-old boy. The 1970s brought Lauren Hutton, who stirred scandal simply because she had a gap between her teeth. This is an odd book to review because it feels like an odd time for this book to have been written. In some ways it reminds me a little of The Kingdom of Prep: The Inside Story of the Rise and (Near) Fall of J.Crew which I read earlier this year. Only Glossier might never have had the same outsized impact like J Crew did and so the chronically of their stories might not be the same... Though I do think that both books make it clear just how each company was able to shake up their respective markets in various ways.

8 habits you can put into practice

Social media has amplified the voices of minority communities—from Harlem to South Central Los Angeles—so that their calls for representation can’t be so easily ignored. And the growth of digital publications and blogs means that every market has become more fluent in the language of aesthetics. A whole new category of power brokers has emerged: influencers. They are young and independent and obsessed with the glamour of fashion. And fashion influencers don’t accept excuses, condescension, or patronizing pleas to be patient, because really, change is forthcoming. It’s just too meta. There’s so much about the idea of glossier, the concept. So much of this book exists in abstract observations about the brand or the idea by the author or observers. So little of the book is fact. We’re sort of vaguely passing through some semblance of a story without ever actually telling it. It’s sort of like if I wrote a book about Glossier, then I wrote a book about all of the intrusive thoughts I had while writing a book about Glossier then I threw out the book about Glossier and published the book of intrusive thoughts. You can kind of suss out where I am in the timeline and vaguely know what’s going on because you can sort of guess what’s happening based on the intrusive thought it triggered. But I never actually tell you what’s happening. Examples of ambition look different for each person, as everyone’s marker for “daunting yet fulfilling” is unique. But no matter the ambition examples you resonate with, these goals will help you live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Why is ambition important? I thought the work was strongest when it leaned into its commentary about gender and class, and weakest when it came to analyzing Weiss herself. (The enigmatic Glossier founder appears in a few interviews and yet manages to say very little at all.) Meltzer's portrait of Weiss is painted with ambivalence, with the last chapter coming to a weak conclusion about Weiss simply being a woman who was trying her best. If you’re feeling unmotivated, you can bolster your ambitious spirit by practicing the following seven characteristics found in highly ambitious people:

Asmita Dubey: We believe that the future of beauty is physical, digital, and virtual, and we are shaping it with science, technology, and creativity. We have already been exploring new business models like social commerce, marketing in the digital age and augmented-reality (AR) beauty, which is why we bought ModiFace in 2018. Through this technology, we have already had more than 1 billion try-ons using our virtual makeup and hair color. Beauty technology is transforming beauty. For example, look at Lancôme Skin Screen, a skin diagnostic tool. It aggregates 13 different skin concerns using 15,000 images. Here we bring together AI, image analysis, and a century-old knowledge of our skincare expertise. We are in a better place than we were a generation ago, but we have not arrived at utopia. Many of the clubbiest realms of beauty still don’t include larger women, disabled ones, or senior citizens. Wanting to be an expert: While you can never truly know everything about a topic, the wish to become a subject matter expert showcases your willingness to learn. You understand that expertise takes time, grit, and determination — and you’re ready to put the effort in to get there (or at least close). Unfortunately, I walked away with a great dislike of the author. She inserted herself into this story in a confounding way. She has a great sense of the struggles women leaders face unfairly, especially showing her disdain for those who revel in the take down of a Girlboss, yet this book is exactly that. The celebration of a woman who she puts high on a pedestal and then delights in taking her down. The bombshell exposé that reveals—for the first time—exactly what happened at Glossier, one of America’s hottest and most consequential startups, and dives deep into the enigmatic, visionary woman responsible for it all.
