About this deal

Based upon the class's letter description chart, have students categorize the examples of mail they brought from home. Children will love opening the envelopes to read a letter from Goldilocks, a postcard addressed to a giant up a beanstalk. For example, this Jolly Postman Roleplay Activityis a great way to get your students thinking about the characters from the story. Use these to encourage your students to be creative and draw inspiration from this brilliant children's book. In Koblitz's classroom, "Constructing meaning from a text or about a particular genre of literature occurs before, during, and after the read-aloud session" (1).

I would give this book 5 stars, partly due to the fact I remember studying this book during my time in primary school and the enjoyment it gave. Along the way he stops and chats to lots of other well known characters including the Seven Dwarfs and the Dish and the Spoon from the Hey Diddle Diddle nursery rhyme.Students read a wide range of print and nonprint texts to build an understanding of texts, of themselves, and of the cultures of the United States and the world; to acquire new information; to respond to the needs and demands of society and the workplace; and for personal fulfillment. By using this text in the classroom there is an opportunity to open the discussion of why people send letters and the technique for writing a good letter.

c/o Grandma’s Cottage, Horner’s Corner, the child reader can actually open the envelopes, take out the letters or cards and read them. This is a magical Christmas tale following the journey of the Jolly Postman delivering his letters at Christmas time. The annual award by the Library Association then recognised the year's best children's book illustration by a British subject.Your students can get involved in the making of your displays by contributing their own work to be put on the classroom wall.

Students read a wide range of literature from many periods in many genres to build an understanding of the many dimensions (e. This book had quite a few humorous moments which I thought were a real hoot (the mini-story about the piggy bank with criminal tendencies being a classic). It also uses a different form of letter for every single one and could easily be used in an English class to teach different forms of writing. As a class, look at different types of mail-friendly letters, business letters, persuasive letters, greeting cards, and so forth. My favourite part of the jolly postman books are the envelopes containing the letters, cards and games which he delivers which you can open and read making the book fun and interactive.

The Jolly Christmas Postman is an amusing tale that follows the journey of a postman doing the rounds on his bicycle on Christmas Eve. The Jolly Postman follows an unnamed mail carrier as he delivers letters by bicycle to characters from traditional children's stories that are well known in Britain. The storybook uses pull-out letters and cards to make the tale as exciting and interactive as possible. Every activity is clearly linked to the national curriculum for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and for Key Stage 1 and 2, supporting learning across the curriculum. The book ends up with the postman visiting Santa Claus and receiving a special Christmas card for himself. We also have resources to help your students develop their writing and literacy skills such as this easy to print Word Mat. After printing their text, students can illustrate the front of the cards using markers or other art supplies. The book is written in rhyme and tells you about the people he delivers the letters to, all of whom are fairy tale characters such as little red riding hood and humpty dumpty. The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters is the first book in a series of three written by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, which follows a Postman in his "uniform of postal blue" on his morning deliveries and is perfect for an Early Years Foundation or Key Stage One classroom. While I’m fully aware that is a book aimed at young children it is an essential part of my Christmas.
