About this deal

The Clarett+ 2Pre is a reasonably simple interface with some very handy features, that offer subtle yet welcome improvements over its predecessor.

Often, these can be attributed to people not setting things up properly, but there are some cases where there are genuine problems with the drivers on some systems. Furthermore, many users find that the manufacturer's support in the event of driver problems needs to be improved, and some need to be faster to release fixes for these issues. The recording quality of this interface is on par with other mid tier audio interfaces, and should work great for either live sound or for amateur home recording artists. Includes everything great about the 3rd generation of Scarlett interfaces, such as the "Air" feature As far as the build quality is concerned, we really like the all-metal finish, which gives the unit a rugged feel. And while the interface has 16 channels, it still is quite compact. The knobs and switches are good quality and true to the feel.

Babyface Pro FS

The Volts are a radical departure for UA, but they deserve to shake up the budget interface market with a great design, a plug-and-play workflow, and hard-to-beat audio conversion. It's bad news for other affordable interface makers: these are great! analog outputs give you access to a multitude of monitor or outboard processing sends. In our experience, Focusrite’s Scarlett USB interfaces have traditionally combined excellent sonics and audio flexibility at affordable price points, and the third-generation units keep up the good work.

Mid-Range 8 Channel Audio Interfaces

On most audio interfaces you’ll typically find both XLR and 1/4-inch inputs, often combined into combo connectors so that you can plug mics, guitars, synths and the like into the same input. Many interfaces also offer a phantom power option, which is required if you want to use certain microphones. In comparison to Audient EVO Sp8, the EVO 16 has a cleaner sound due to its improved total harmonic distortion plus noise. It can basically handle a wider range of audio signal levels because of the higher dynamic range. Plus, the UI control, the latest EVO software app, connectivity options, and the number of inputs and outputs, make EVO 16 a much more solid interface than EVO 4, EVO 8, and EVO Sp8. Clarett+ has improved independent A-D and D-A converters, slightly better noise figures throughout, and improved dynamic range. The mic inputs are silky smooth and have plenty of headroom, and the outputs are crystal clear and suitably noise-free. If you want to add some life to your input, the Air option does just that. Also excellent are the two JFET instrument inputs, substantially better than a regular instrument input. Inside your audio interface is some hardware and software that interprets the analog/electrical signal and turns it into a digital signal/digital information. This part of the process is called analog to digital conversion. Additionally, the built-in analog compressors offer only three presets, which could be limiting in specific studio settings. While the Volt 276 is pricier than other interfaces, many users believe its performance justifies the cost. One notable limitation is the absence of an optical SPDIF out.
