A great adventure with wonderful characters that will leave readers on the edge of their seats at the same time as wanting to learn more about the period. Unfortunately like all of Philippa Gregory’s books mentioning the Howards she has terrible prejudice against them.

Beden the Fool also appears in related notes of the time, and it has been suggested that Beden was her surname. I loved the history in this book, for the most part I liked Hannah when she was relating what was happening around her but it ultimately ends up a B. Some we receive from the authors, some we receive from the publisher, and some we receive through a third party service like Net Galley. I loved the main characters instantly and followed thetwists and turns of their compelling story with avid attention. And I thought you moved Hannah through the story to place her at various important events with ease. Today, entertainers sometimes perform as "Jane" in Renaissance-themed entertainments such as Renaissance faires.

I was amazed at how accessible you make the complex politics and religious changes that wracked England during the time frame of this novel.I never felt lost, never had to back up and reread a passage to remember who somebody was or what they had done…truly it was wonderfully done. Another long time reader who read romance novels in her teens, then took a long break before started back again about 25 years ago.
