Prior to 1983 the early incarnation of Inspiral Carpets was called The Furs formed in 1980 by Graham Lambert and played mainly Psychedelic Furs covers. As the band's popularity grew, Playtime's distributor Red Rhino Records went bankrupt, leading Inspiral Carpets to form their own label, Cow Records, in March 1989.
