About this deal

This book, I came up with the idea eight years ago, or I guess it started 10 years ago when I was writing the first book and then that became this book something like 10 years ago or 8 years ago. If I'm looking for an idea like that, that's like a big C, Creativity. And that's where I feel like I need more space. So get out of that myth and work on yourself to get the most out of the time you have because you don’t know whether you will wake up tomorrow or not. When you start a business, you won’t earn millions right away, it will take time if you work properly. That's harder and harder to do with potential inflation. I'm not a financial adviser but things like gold and bonds and like things that aren't going to go down in value. And then the other 15% is these wild card things that have unlimited potential upside.

And it's funny because what you're talking about here is exactly how I'm feeling at the moment is that I can't get to that 15 minutes. I'm getting a lot done, but it's not what you would call creative work in that way. It's necessary work because you know, listeners know there's more to being an author, a professional author than just the writing. Wield all of the power of technology, with none of the distractions. An obscure but inexpensive gadget may be the shortcut to your superpowers.

Restorative things are productive: Given this struggle between your prefrontal cortex and amygdala, and the fact that your prefrontal cortex is so easily fatigued, it should be no surprise that rest is important to using your mind effectively. If you think you’re getting more work done by working until you collapse every night, I’d argue that you probably aren’t. You’re probably depleting your prefrontal cortex, and instead of thinking strategically, are filling up the time with reactionary, fear-driven (amygdala-driven) “work.” Restorative activities, such as exercising, sleeping, and spending time with loved ones help your brain reorganize. If you’re skeptical, there’s research showing that positive mood and sleep encourage insightful thinking, and that close relationships strongly affect happiness. So always, promises yourself that, you will focus on the process because when you focus on results, you will see, how far it is… Routines They're all suddenly talking to each other just for a moment. It's like your brain is a racquetball court with these blue bouncy balls bouncing all over them and every once in a while, some of them collide and then you have an insight and that's a good idea. What kind of mental state am I in right now? Am I in the mood for draft writing, outlining, researching, exploring, or polishing? (Throughout the process, I began to codify the different types of work required to produce my writing.)

So I had already done some evaluation in that way. But I do always try to have some amount of my resources that I invest in those sort of crazy, what they call, asymmetric ideas. It doesn't take you a lot maybe to try these crazy ideas. And the potential downside is relatively low, but the potential upside is really high. Love your prefrontal Cortex: Your prefrontal cortex is your brain’s “newest” part. Your prefrontal cortex is in charge of suppressing things like – prioritizing, planning, and urges. But your prefrontal cortex is small and needs a lot of energy. So when it’s tiring, it’s hard to think about what you’re doing right now. Therefore, relax to allow your prefrontal cortex to function well. Your brain is plastic: Every time your neurons fire, it makes it easier for those same pathways to fire again. It used to believed that the brain was a static organ once you reached adulthood, but now we know that the brain changes throughout life. This means that each time you perform a thought or action, you make it easier for your brain to reproduce that thought or action. This has some pretty clear implications for positive vs. negative thoughts, and explains why meditation is so powerful (which I’ll get to in a bit). It doesn't even necessarily happen during the time that you have off. I've certainly noticed in the rare occasions that I've taken a week vacation or even if I go for a hike or if I go get a massage, it's not during the vacation. It's not during the hike. It's not during the massage. David Kadavy's YouTube channel is a wonderful resource for individuals looking for direction and inspiration in the worlds of creative and business, thanks to his straightforward and engaging communication style. Disclaimer:

Yes, I have ideas during those times, but oftentimes it just happens to be after that. This is an interesting thing about time. It seems like the more that you don't take risks, the more that you are looking for that graph going up and to the right, the less you have the opportunity for those crazy breakthrough successes to happen. This is a book about maximizing your return on your efforts with knowledge work. It is about living in an unstructured environment, where valuable ideas spring from novel connections: the intriguing marketing plan that catapults your company forward, writing a book worth reading, or designing a garden that brings peace and beauty to your property. You have filled your mind with so many different useless thoughts. That’s why there is no time to think about your goal and focus on it. To fix this, clear your mind of unnecessary thoughts by meditating every night before sleeping and after waking up so that you can be aware of your thoughts and give priority only to ideas that help you achieve your goal. Great point that state of mind/attitude matters much more in certain areas then time frame (and maybe in much more then we think).
