Bruce Wayne, also known as the Batman of Earth -44, is the Murder Machine, one of Barbatos' Dark Knights. Mind Control: Using a specialized helmet, Failsafe is able to control others into performing surveillance using their own skills, such as Oracle. Back in Atlantis, Aquaman warns Bruce that Failsafe is sending a message that Gotham City is theirs and trying to lure Batman to come to get it back. With the addition of his faithful butler in his head and his mechanical upgrades Bruce began a campaign of mass murder, as the Protocol deemed everyone a threat to Bruce.
He almost succeeded in killing Hal Jordan, but this was interrupted by Prime Earth's Batman who threw Batarangs fashioned from Element X at Aquaman and Hal. Batman and Robin (Tim Drake) work together against Failsafe and are able to create an opening for Batman to inject the new personality program into Failsafe. Aquaman reveals that Gotham City has fallen under Failsafe’s control with most of the Batman Family captured and only Signal and Batgirl ( Cassandra Cain) left as part of a resistance. The World's Greatest Detective is on the case, but he's got plenty of other things weighing on his mind.
Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl and Black Canary appear on the scene to help, but just as Failsafe knows Superman's shortcomings, the powerful robot also begins defending against a Justice League onslaught. Superhuman Strength: Failsafe possesses vast superhuman strength, he can easily overpower multiple people and toss them around with no effort and his blows deal devastating damage. He and the other Dark Knights later watch the traitor Red Death who has been taken over by the Barry Allen of Earth -52, disintegrate on the House of Heroes. Elsewhere, Failsafe has captured most of the Batman Family and is using Oracle to keep track of everything going on in Gotham City including any superhero who may try to enter the city.
He is extremely durable and has shown complete invulnerability to everything the Batman Family threw at him: he wasn't damaged by multiple blows, explosive batarangs, point blank explosions, missiles, flames, the Wingcycle crashing into him at top speed and exploding, the combined assault of both Batman and Robin armed with energy blades, debris falling onto him and acid. In adulthood, he took up the name Batman to fight crime, and would become a founding member of the Justice League. He was even unfazed after being shot by a New Genesis gun that produced three quadrillion watts of energy. Could Alfred have mustered the technical expertise to create a Batman 'failsafe' protocol and hidden it from Bruce's notice?Alfred took away Bruce's ability to feel fear and sadness and then replaced Bruce's frail biological body with a mechanical one that would never fail him. When a horrified Robin questions Failsafe the android says he was just showing Batman compassion by eliminating him. Something however started interfering with the Alfred Protocol's connection, which he was unable to figure out why, causing the nanobot restraints on the League members to. Although he succeeds in incapacitating Steel, Flash is able to escape through the same portal the Dark Knights used.
