About this deal

The other advantage I see for the Ivie is that by connecting over wifi it can be moved around the house and be much further away from the meter so can be put somewhere more convenient (my current Trio II IHD needs to be within 2 metres). There also appears to be (or going to be) the ability to link to Smartthings app and access the data on mobile or tablet and presumably remotely as well. While poking around in the settings menu, I decided to test out the “Full Reset” function, which totally resets the device with a warning I’d have to complete activation again… That was my final mistake. After the device rebooted, it had clearly done a full reset and was once again awaiting activation. Great, so you might think it’s ready to set up again… Right…? Nope! Samsung today announced the launch of SmartThings Energy in the UK, a world-first service that will allow UK households to manage their energy usage, with any UK provider, directly from their phones, and completely free of charge. SmartThings Energy is powered by Chameleon Technology, Samsung’s data partner since 2019. See smart meter data, costs and budgets all from a smartphone It would only be logical though if " the big selling point of smart meters to consumers is that with the IHD, they can see their usage, real times costs etc and hopefully reduce their usage" was the real reason behind the smart meter rollout, but of course it isn't.

Choose energy-efficient devices and appliances : You can also save money on your energy bills by making small changes to the way you use them in your home. From what I’ve read, Chameleon pitches the ivie Bud has having multiple purposes. Firstly, as a replacement SMETS2 IHD for anyone who doesn’t currently have one and can’t get hold of one, as well as for anyone who wants to get real-time usage data in a smartphone app, which is reported as an upcoming feature integration. As it’s not out yet, I can’t currently play with that functionality though. Other than that, it’s the usual purposes you’d get from any IHD.Energy bills have increased and we're all on the hunt for easy solutions to keep prices as low as possible. Could smart devices and energy-saving gadgets help? So many devices are sold as "energy-saving" these days, but are they worth it? Which ones are actually worth buying? Using APIs (Application Programming Interface) programmers can access customer data through targeted requests. The data retrieved can be processed and displayed. Hildebrand Glowmarkt API E.ON Next have chosen ivie Bud from Chameleon as our replacement in home display partner 🎉 Say Hello to the ivie Bud CAD IHD device... Sources: UK figures from company reports; EDF analysis; total zero carbon generation for 2022 from DESNZ Energy Trends 5.1 As usual, if your IHD can only see your electricity readings and not the gas, it's likely loop will only provide your electricity readings.Hildebrand have provided a free API to access the data they store from your meter via DCC or from their CAD device. It also supports the MQTT (Message Queue Telemetry Transport) message protocol. The extent of Smart Meter data you can see, how soon you can see it and its granularity depends on whether you have a CAD or not. The only other use case which I can’t recommend the device at all, is if you’re on Pay As You Go and need to be able to enter UTRN Top-Up Codes if you go off-supply. The ivie Bud will lose power if it’s unplugged from the mains, so you’ll want to keep your existing IHD charged for this purpose or enter the codes directly on your meter. A radiator thermostat is essential to tailor how hot your radiators heat up to, but a smart thermostat is the latest must-have. This innovative device enables you to control multiple radiators, and zones, all of which can be managed via an app. It also details the energy output and temperature, so you can be mindful of how hot your house is - and whether you really need the heating on.

With the need for action on energy consumption and decarbonisation more important than ever, the hope is that services like SmartThings Energy can help galvanise consumer interest in smart meters by empowering users to take action based on their energy usage data more easily. Chameleon’s technology enables smart meter data to be securely and privately populated in the SmartThings app. Making this data easily accessible to consumers will allow them to make meaningful changes surrounding energy in the home and ultimately may contribute to a lower carbon footprint. Chameleon Technology furthers its commitment to empowering individuals to make smarter energy choices Access to your meter readings and more detailed consumption data from your Smart Meter was not a priority for the Smart Metering Programme, so it has taken a few years for services to become available. The concept from the beginning was for third parties to provide Consumer Access Devices (CAD) to allow customers to retrieve their own data. I guess I'll just put a current clamp to get my realtime measurements, and forget about this UK smart meter non-sense. Or wait that Hildebrand manages to get their product and supply working hopefully one day.If the big selling point of smart meters to consumers is that with the IHD, they can see their usage, real times costs etc and hopefully reduce their usage ... wouldn't it be logical in the event of a failure to replace the IHD free of charge? Tesco Mobile is to start charging new and recently joining pay-monthly customers to use their mobiles in Europe from 2024.
