About this deal

The end sections include a list of fossil birds excluded from the book, a glossary and an extensive bibliography (a trademark of Lynx Edicions publications who do not skimp on this).

The book has a lot of interesting facts about owls, but more than anything, it reads like an entertaining novel with great stories of their relationship. From learning how to feed Wesley thousands of mice to Wesley helping O’Brien through her illness, this book is highly recommended for a fun read. This book is a perfect complement to the author’s field guides ( Sibley’s Bird’s East and West) as it builds upon the necessary skills of bird identification. It has helped me immensely, both in the field and using my field guides. At Birdfinders we cater to all levels of ability and enthusiasm is more important than knowledge as our experienced leaders are always on hand to assist. Although all of our birdwatching holidays and birdwatching tours are designed specifically for finding birds, we stop wherever possible for other forms of wildlife and previous tour participants have been able to combine birds with their interests in mammals, butterflies, plants, insects etc. Furthermore, whilst the very nature of birdwatching dictates some early-morning starts to ensure that we see as many species as possible, we can frequently arrange for participants to take time off to relax or sightsee, providing that does not conflict with the itinerary of the tour.

Save time, save money!

As Martin Collinson put it in his review of this title, ‘This book makes the case that vagrancy in birds matters.’ Indeed, the judges were impressed by the easily accessible way that this title presented theories on vagrancy – and its importance to a host of ornithological events, from the formation of new migration routes to speciation, as vagrants create new populations on isolated islands that eventually evolve into new species. There is also an impressive amount of research summarised in the family-by-family section, which discusses extralimital records of various species as well as detailing interesting theories and observations on the vagrancy tendencies of birds in the given family. This book offers something for all birders and ornithologists, from rarity hunters to conservationists studying habitat loss, and was, therefore, recognised by the judges as being one of the most useful titles of 2022. The city centre of Bath is home to numerous restaurants, pubs, and shops, and the Bath Spa Railway Station is only 12 minutes' stroll from the hotel. Most people that like attracting hummingbirds, also enjoy butterflies, and vice versa. This book is perfect because it focuses on both of these pollinators. You will learn the best plants, feeders, and water features that appeal to both butterflies and hummingbirds.

It's not often a field guide comes along that can accurately be described as a game-changer, but this might just be one [...] Unrivalled coverage of British birds. It's an absolute must."I love this book for its adventure and insights into the birding subculture more than 40 years ago! Birding has come a long way. Because the Helm Guide features only ‘confusion’ species, it’s not an ideal book for the beginner. However, for someone who wants to take their bird identification to the next level, it’s the ideal reference book. Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence Coverage of 12 new species recorded since the first edition plus revisions to reflect the latest taxonomy
