About this deal

When the brew is done, remove the filter holder from the condenser and pour your freshly brewed coffee into a cup or mug. Add sweetened condensed milk if desired, and enjoy!

One popular option is to use flavored syrups, such as chocolate, caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, or coconut syrups. Simply drizzle the syrup over your cup of coffee, or stir it in along with the other ingredients to create a deliciously sweet and aromatic drink. Vietnamese coffee brewers can be crafted from a few different materials. While most phins are made of metal, it is good to know what else is out there if one of the other options appears to be more appealing to you. Stainless steel The brewing time can also be adjusted based on how tightly you screw. The tighter it is, the longer the brewing time as water will pour slower. I recommend screwing it just tight enough to secure the grounds while also leaving out room for the coffee to expand or “bloom” once you start pouring water. Some coffee experts recommend aiming for a hotter water temperature if you want a more robust brew with more oils, while others suggest using cooler water for a lighter cup with milder flavors.

It all starts with a phin

We’ve all been there, desperately awaiting a cool and creamy Vietnamese iced coffee after slurping down a fiery bowl of exotic, oriental spices. And let’s face it, there is nothing like having an authentic Vietnamese style iced coffee! Here’s the way to make one just like those you’ve enjoyed in your favourite Vietnamese restaurant. Step 1 Next, press on the filter gently to compress the bloomed coffee. This helps slow down the drip rate when you use all of your water. It also makes for a more flavorful coffee. When our coffees were done dripping, we stirred them to combine the coffee and condensed milk. Mine was ready to enjoy. Philip poured his coffee into the glass full of ice, and voila!

A second unique aspect of authentic Vietnamese joe is the use of Robustabeans for the dark roast coffee that fuels the beverage. There are two species ofcoffeebeansthat make their way to grocery store shelves: Robusta and Arabica. If you prefer cold coffee, add a few ice cubes into the glass or a cup it was brewing in, or pour the coffee into a tall glass filled with ice for a more diluted iced coffee version. Never brew Vietnamese coffee directly over the ice, as it will instantly dissolve ice cubes and make your coffee watery even before it finishes brewing. Unlike most brewing methods, the phin filter is extremely portable. It’s made with very resistant materials and yet it’s also quite lightweight and small. It wouldn’t break easily like a French press (usually made of glass) or a ceramic brewing device like the Hario V60. It’s arguably even more portable than the Aeropress! Fortunately, both Vietnamese iced coffee made with condensed milk or frothy egg yolks (or both) are relatively simple recipes that can be easily recreated using your AeroPress.Aluminum and stainless steel, the two most typical materials used to manufacture phin filters, can be reused virtually indefinitely. A good example of this is the moka pot, which is also made of aluminum and can easily last decades brewing as well as the first time— so you can expect your phin filter to last for decades, too. The phin filter is a small investment that will continue to make good coffee for you for decades to come!

Fill a heated water kettle or pot with hot tap water and bring it to a boil on your stovetop. 3. Once the water has reached a rolling boil, carefully pour it into the condenser of the Vietnamese coffee maker, being careful not to splash any water into the filter holder or onto your grounds. Ceramic — A ceramic Vietnamese coffee maker is often hand-painted and is a great aesthetic addition to your kitchen. It holds the heat very well. However, it’s extremely fragile and requires careful handling, so you can’t use it on the go. How it works: Using the same method as drip coffee but on a smaller scale, these machines use pre-ground and measured pods to deliver a consistent cup of coffee every time. A pre-set amount of hot water runs through the grounds directly into your mug. The filter is located in the pod so you don’t have to worry about emptying the grinds — just toss the pods in the trash. Remove the filter, and stir to mix in the condensed milk. The amount of condensed milk you use is a very personal decision but here are my personal recommendations: Vietnamese coffee makers offer a distinct brewing experience, quite unlike the standard coffee machines we’re accustomed to. These coffee makers, or “phin,” are vital to Vietnamese coffee culture. History and characteristics of Vietnamese coffee makers:That said, Vietnamese coffee tends to be a bit more expensive than some other popular types, such as mass-produced commercial coffees or basic instant brands.
