The British Dodgeball Secondary Scheme of Work is designed to teach Physical Education in Secondary Schools through dodgeball-based activity. The scheme of work contains one unit of 6 lessons for Lower KS3, Upper KS3 and KS4 which have been designed in line with the National Curriculum (2014), and has been created to aid teachers in teaching a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum. The first unit has been developed to introduce, consolidate and build upon learning contained in the KS2 British Dodgeball Primary Scheme of Work which pupils may not have completed. The upper KS3 and KS4 units build upon the previous to form a spiral curriculum (Bruner, 1960).

This online self-learning course gives an introduction to the correct rules, equipment and sporting code used in dodgeball. It will also help you consider how to lead safe sessions and coach the basic skills of dodgeball. In dodgeball, there are certain moves that are considered illegal. These include entering or exiting the court through the sidelines, crossing the centerline and touching the ground on the opponents' side, and avoiding being hit or attempting to catch a ball. These rules ensure fair play and maintain the integrity of the game. 4. Why was dodgeball banned in most schools in the USA? In an effort to find common playing ground between N. American and European national dodgeball federations, a cloth division was introduced at the 2022 Dodgeball World Championships in Edmonton. The division proved to be popular and will likely spur more cloth play in N. America. Though several European nations dominated the cloth division at the world championships, the U.S. Men’s National Dodgeball Team did secure a 3rd place medal. The skill sets of the American team in 8.5 inch rubber dodgeball translated well to the larger cloth ball format.Our lesson plans offer progressive drills and skill based activities that are in line with the PE National Curriculum with a specific focus on one or more of Physical, Social, Problem Solving or Tactical skills. You will find 3 levels of assessment for each lesson that are split into emerging, expecting and exceeding criteria so that pupils can be assessed accurately and easily. Inch Foam: At one time, 8-inch foam dodgeballs were more popular. 8-inch foam dodgeballs were used in the ball mix in some Toronto leagues (four 7-inch and two 8-inch) and were a staple of the popular Detroit Cup. However, as the sport of dodgeball has matured, the popularity of 8-inch dodgeballs has waned. Many players feel that the 8-inch foam dodgeballs are just too easy to catch. At British Dodgeball we want to provide school teachers, school coaches, students and leaders with the necessary tools to deliver dodgeball. We want to put a platform in place that enables dodgeball to grow within schools and across the United Kingdom. For many players, there is only one true, official dodgeball of the game, and that is the 8.5-inch rubber dodgeball. The 8.5-inch dodgeballs made their mark in grade school for many players. It was the first, and best ball, for many. Indeed, the rubber dodgeballs have many attributes. The balls are cheap and durable. Easier to catch, these balls feel natural in the hands and on catches. The balls foster teamwork, and in the higher echelons of competition, encourage a slower, measured, strategy-based game. Acclaimed dodgeball organizer Mark Acomb built his popular Elite Dodgeball organization around this ball. Our Level 2 course is an 8 hour practical course that is perfect for anyone wishing to coach dodgeball within their community at clubs or within the school. Going into more detail than the Level 1, participants will understand dodgeball rules and game play, core skills of the sport, coaching, variations and inclusive practices, refereeing, planning and delivery and evaluating and concluding.
