This book allows young readers to connect with a character, Rose, whose mom experienced the depression that many moms experience at the loss of an unborn baby. I love that this author’s intent is to provide and easy-to-read, graphic, comic book style novel that can allow teens to feel a commonality when their family is experiencing something similar. It’s enemies to lovers, whereas the sequel Hook, Line, and Sinker, (which was also amazing!!!!) was friends to lovers. Brendan was giving me Rip from Yellowstone vibes, and Fox (a main character in the sequel, and Brendan’s best friend) gave me so Sawyer from Lost vibes. (I’m pretty sure he was written with Sawyer in mind….if you know, you know). At twenty-eight, Piper was not old. But she was one of the oldest women at this party. At every party she’d been to recently, come to think of it. Leaning on the glass railing that overlooked Melrose was an up-and-coming pop star who couldn’t be a day older than nineteen. She didn’t need tape from Milan to hold up her tits. They were light and springy with nipples that reminded Piper of the bottom of an ice cream cone.Yes, I know,” she said, prodded by irritation—and more than a little bit of reluctant shame. “Life is what I’m documenting through photos. I—” The way Brendan grounds Piper is commendable and I loved the changes their relationship brought out in her character, especially when we learned of all the things she’d done to help the other residents of Westport.
