About this deal

Didn’t bother passing it on to anyone else, I wouldn’t put them through it when there are so many other good versions out there! If you prefer the easier games with linear structures and fairly straightforward puzzles, Escape from the Starline Express is a fine choice. It reminds me of Escape the Room series of games, which I slightly prefer over this. There’s no detective work here. You’re told upfront who the suspects are, and you find the location of the hidden diamonds as a matter of course as you play along. All you’re trying to do is solve for the number of the next car in the train, then get to the destination envelope. As such, the game feels a little short. It’s like Professor Puzzle was trying to copy Think Fun, and wasn’t really sure how to go about it. After that, we worked out how many products were more expensive or cheaper. From the 318 products, 314 cost more and 3 cost less than Professor Puzzle Escape From The Starline Express. Prices from Professor Puzzle

Based on that price, when we compare it to the other options available, we’ve given it a price score of 8.9 out of 10. Board games category average cost Set contains 9 mystery envelopes, representing different train carriages, such as First Class Saloon, Dining Car and Engine Room etc. Everything looks nice. Nothing spectacular, everything is very much in the standard style of escape room games. Escape the Room games seem like the closest comparison here. Also by Professor Puzzle: Secrets of Emerald Hill – Review of a Top Eighties Themed Mystery Game! On the scale of Enthusiastic, Suggest, Indifferent or Avoid, Escape from the Starline Express gets Indifferent from me. Similar Posts: Then we’re on to features. Again this will vary in importance depending on the type of toy you’re buying. You’ll no doubt have a view on whether you care about features or not for Board games. Pricing. We’ll go into detail on the price of Professor Puzzle Escape From The Starline Express in a moment but it’s worth covering in the quality chapter here too. The box gives you nine envelopes, one representing each of the eight cars of the train, plus the destination train station. You also get a solutions envelope. The game envelopes generally contain two sets of puzzles, either to cover losses if you decide to play multiple times, or if you want to share tasks with the party. The contents of the envelopes can be divided into two categories – the props needed for the puzzles, and props for telling the story. The story props don’t contribute directly to the puzzles, and essentially just show that the gang did indeed commit the robbery. The front of each envelope has a three-digit number somewhere, and a car name (the exception being the train station building, which is the last envelope and has the ID disguised. The puzzles generally resolve to one of the three-digit numbers, and you know you have it right if you find the matching envelope. Inside each envelope is a confirmation statement saying something like “if you are coming from the Observation car, you have the right envelope.”

With that in mind, we wanted to really explore and analyse the price of Professor Puzzle Escape From The Starline Express to see how cheap you can get it, but also see how it compares to other products. To do this we looked all the products available in the “Board games” category, as well as looking at the products available from the brand Professor Puzzle. Invite your guests, set the scene and get ready to host a night of fun and intrigue with this fast-paced, fast-thinking cross between a detective story and an escape room game. Elevator pitch: An escape room puzzle game where you hunt down diamond thiefs in a 1920s train from London to Paris. The point here though is that you can get a good idea of the quality of a product by the number and type of features that are available on the product. So take the time to look at the features listed for Professor Puzzle Escape From The Starline Express and it will help guide you on the quality. Players: 2–8. Most puzzles have duplicate sets of components, which is really good – it makes two-player games more fun and supports bigger player counts, too. Since this is a linear one-puzzle-at-a-time affair, there isn’t much to do for players, so I’d say 2–5 is more realistic player count range.

If the price appears to be significantly lower than you’d expect for the sort of product you’re buying, then you’d be wise to start looking in a bit more detail at other indicators of the quality. There’s no scoring system. You either get to the end of the game in 90 minutes or you don’t. The game is rated for two or more players, so I feel justified in dividing the time in half as a solo player handicap. I finished in 2 hours and 50 minutes. With the handicap, that’s 85 minutes, which is good enough for me. My verdict: I paid 15 euros for my used copy of the game, and I think it’s fairly realistic to expect I can sell this for 10–15 euros. At that price point, sure, I’ll give a new escape room game a go. Now that I’ve played this, though, I’m not particularly interested in playing the Escape from the Grand Hotel, another game from the same company with a similar linear structure. The price of a product is another really good indicator of the quality because, as you’ll already know, you often get what you pay for. In the pricing section shortly you’ll see how the price of Professor Puzzle Escape From The Starline Express compares to all of the other Board games available from our recommended retailer, Argos. The puzzles offer a variety of fairly typical escape room puzzles. Escape from the Starline Express is strictly a linear game – you’re railroaded through the puzzles, one by one, until you reach the end. This makes it an easy game, on the level of the easiest Exit: The Game games, and at times makes solving the puzzles a bit too easy (when you have one numbered carriage left, it’s pretty obvious the solution will be the number of that one carriage). The first factor that you can look at is the brand. Often we can get a really good understanding of the quality of toys and other gadgets by just looking at the brand. There are some brands that are really well known for great quality, whilst others might be better known for value.(and some are known to be poor in both areas). What hidden secrets will you uncover when you board the Starline Express? And will you escape in time? What’s not to like: If you’re an experienced puzzle solver, this is going to be way too easy. I also prefer the non-linear games, as they give the added challenge of figuring out where to go.
