About this deal

Eager to fit in, Anna and Peter spend their first evening with their new neighbours, a couple who turn up on their doorstep to welcome them with open arms. But when Anna pops over the next morning to thank them for their hospitality, there’s no answer. The house is bare and unoccupied, and the neighbours have vanished without a trace. What’s more, everybody else on the street is convinced that no one ever lived there at all.

Why lie to them about what happened to their neighbours? It only provoked their curiosity. Why not tell them they’d had to go out of town? The whole witness protection idea did not hang together properly. I'm going to put all of my issues that include HUGE spoilers, in one long paragraph so skip to last paragraph for final thoughts and rating. And the app that you will come to read about? It is a personality all its own. The Street By Susi Holliday- Audiobook Anna & Peter move to a new development on the shores of The Forth, having decided on a fresh start away from London. The houses are ultra-modern and appear to be of a similar style & layout. Some have gardens leading to the beach, including theirs.

Susi Holliday grew up close to Edinburgh and spent a number of years working in her family’s newsagent and pub before studying statistics and microbiology. She’s worked as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 16 years, however it was on a six month round-the-world-trip that she took with her husband that she refound her passion for writing.

She wrote this odd way a couple of times I spotted that is just not how anybody speaks, as in, ".....they're reserved for the participants to tell, are they not ?" and, "That's what you really wanted, was it not ?"I spotted some apostrophe errors, she missed a few question marks and she wrote straight and not strait-laced. 'Cat been stunned' lost the word had but that was way better error-wise than the first book I read by her, which was good to see. This is my second experience of Susi Holliday's work, having previously read and enjoyed "The Last Resort". I was looking forward to being equally impressed by "The Hike" and the premise and the accompanying marketing blurb gave me every reason to hope that I would enjoy it just as much. But, unfortunately, I didn't.The main relationship (Anna and Peter) was unrealistic and just didn’t ring true. For example, why would Anna choose a time when they are not close and there’s so much tension already to tell him about the affair? There seemed to be a lot of inconsistency - I know this was probably to give a sense of intrigue (is Peter a goodie or a baddie? Ooh the suspense) - but it was all so thinly drawn. I did not care about either of them - (and I really am a very caring person, honest!) His wife was perfectly content, wasn’t she? And maybe a bit of fun with Lars might not be a bad thing… A fling with a people trafficing, drug barron might be just the thing. He almost laughed at the absurdity. Cat and Paul are married and Cat’s sister Ginny is married to Tristan. These four all have secrets and are not very likeable. In fact Cat hates her sister (with good reason) and she’s not real fond of her husband right now either. Yet she talks them into agreeing to a weekend in Switzerland with a lovely easy hike thrown in on the Saturday before the hot tub and champagne. Of course things don’t go according to plan. She has a bombshell to drop but it is saving it for later.

Their new start literally maxes out the escapism aspect that all good fiction should provide for its readers. As much as I loved the concept, I cant say I was super jazzed about how it all wrapped up. But this was a solid English suspense novel. Susi Holliday is one of my favorite authors, I highly recommend The Hike by her. Can't wait to read Substitute by her next!

Susi Holliday grew up near Edinburgh and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for many years before she started writing. A lifelong fan of crime and horror, her short stories have been published in various places, and she was shortlisted for the inaugural CWA Margery Allingham Prize. She is the acclaimed author of ten novels and a novella. A film adaptation of her Trans-Siberian-set thriller, Violet, is currently in development. I did guess some of the stuff early on but that didn’t detract from the reading. Plus there were a few anomalies but again, that did not distract me. A brilliant concept, superbly executed. Susi Holliday is a master of her craft.” —Marion Todd, author of A Blind Eye The Deaths of December” is the first stand alone novel and was released in 2017. The hunt’s on for a serial murderer in a thrilling festive crime novel.
