The yellowish discolouration which results from iron containing stones rusting is removed and largely prevented. It’s best to try to keep your paving free of cementitious debris but during construction it can be very difficult. If you do find you’ve spilled cement on your paving or the edges of your paving have been marked by the jointing material, sometimes known as picture framing, there are several cleaning chemicals you can use to remedy the situation. What you use depends on your paving choice so consult our team for some assistance on this. Picture Framing – cement staining from pointing Sealants Surfaces such as chrome, enamel, wood, and similar acid sensitive surface must be protected against splashes and vapours. Acid containing cleaners can develop vapours which may damage sensitive surfaces. We highly recommend carefully washing the product off the surface and ensuring good ventilation during and after use. If you are not satisfied with the result, repeat this procedure either with a stronger concentration or with longer working times. For cleaning mortar off paving, we recommend trying Drytreat Alkaline Cleaner first, before moving on to this, more powerful product.

Cleans granite, gneiss, quartzite and other natural and engineered stones. Removes cement films and other stubborn dirt residues, blooms, efflorescence and rust discolourations. Also helps to prevent rust in hard stone containing iron. NOT suitable for polished marble, polished limestone, polished travertine Slip resistance testing is a complex and varied area however the two main tests for domestic paving are either the pendulum test (PTV) or the ramp test (R rating). With the pendulum test, a pendulum is swung over the surface of the stone which will slow it down. The rougher the surface, the more it will slow the pendulum and the higher the value (PTV). It is tested both wet and dry. The lowest permitted value for external use when wet is 36. The good news is that limestone, being generally dense, seldom needs cleaning, but what can you do if it does? A common problem is the misuse of acid cleaners. This has a detrimental and irreversible effect on the look of limestone paving. Always choose a cleaner that specifies that it is suitable for limestone. Need advice? Lithofin MN Builders Clean prevents rust discolourations, which occasionally appear when cleaning iron containing stones such as serrizzo, cresciano, calanca, sardo white, etc. The water absorption test measures the amount of water a stone can hold when fully saturated. This is expressed as a percentage of the total weight. So, a result of 1% means that when fully saturated, 1% of a stone’s weight will be water. As a guide, paving such as porcelain is usually less than 0.5% porosity, granite is around 0.5%, sandstone and limestone are in the region of 1-3% and concrete, 6%Coverage: 20-50m 2 with a watering can; up to 200m 2 with a low-pressure sprayer. A sprayer is preferable, to allow for better coverage and penetration. Lithofin Builders' Clean can be used for light rust discolouration, as well as efflorescence, limescale deposits, and ingrained dirt. However, it's more squarely aimed at cementitious residues where, for example, pointing has spilled over and been left too long to clean off completely. Find out more about what cleaning solutions to choose for porcelain paving. What not to use when cleaning a porcelain patio Lithofin Outdoor Cleaner is an all-purpose solution suitable natural stone patios, including limestone.

We recommend this for removing isolated stains caused by metal garden furniture or pots, fertilizers that contain iron, etc. Grease and oil - choose a general cleaner such as Lithofin Power Clean, or spot cleaner for stubborn stains. When you use Bero you should always treat the entire paved area. This is because occasionally it may make paving darker. This effect will wear off with time. A basic cleaning of the floor covering in the museum area was carried out in 2016 to 2017. To protect the exhibits, the humidity was always monitored during the cleaning work. First wet the surface, then apply diluted with water up to 1:10, depending on the type of dirt – and immediately spread the product evenly on the surface with a scrubbing brush. After a few minutes, scrub the surface then wash away with clean water. Do not allow the product to dry on the surface. In stubborn cases this procedure may have to be repeated. Advice: in case of extremely stubborn, repeated rust discolourations we recommend BERO.Dilute Lithofin ASR up to approx. 1:3 to 1:5 with cold water, apply it to the surface and allow it to work for approx. 5 to 15 minutes. Brushing increases the effectiveness of the product. It's important to follow instructions and to apply water before using it. The best way to do this is to saturate the stone, and then do it again twenty minutes later. In this way, you’ll get as much water into the stone as possible, which is what you want to ensure that the cleaner stays on the surface. If you only dilute the cleaner and put it on to dry stone, the solution gets drawn into the stone where it can oxidise iron deposits, causing rust marks to appear. This highly active cleaner, with chlorine and special additives is likely to be all you need when giving a patio a thorough clean. Safety: Ingredients: anionic surfactants; non-ionic surfactants; NTA; alkali; perfume; auxiliary agents. Label according to EU-Directive 1999/45/EG: C, corrosive.

More often than not, the driver will manage the delivery without a hitch. However in some circumstances, the driver will need assistance. For example: Frost resistance testing is called the Freeze/ Thaw test and is conducted by repeatedly freezing the paving to -40 Fahrenheit and then thawing it, before repeating the cycle again. During this process the paving will lose some of its flexibility and the key to good quality paving is that it does not lose a high level of resilience during the test cycle. Losses in Mpa should not exceed 5 Mpa The compressive strength rating is important when deciding on stone suitable for a driveway or commercial setting where excessive weight will be applied to the paving. Paving that does not pass the required standard will not support any excessive loading. Slip Resistance (BS EN 14231) The flexural strength is important as it ensures the paving is not overly brittle which would cause difficulties when handling and laying. Compression Limits (BS EN 1926There are a couple of caveats that we've found in our experience. Outdoor Cleaner shouldn't be used on stone which has been sealed with Dry Treat Intensifia, as it can sometimes lead to bleaching. And, although it can be used on limestone, our experience is that, used neat, there is a danger of bleaching the stone. So we recommend diluting it with water.

Lithofin OIL-EX is a ready-to-use, gel-like paste that we recommend for spot-cleaning oil- and grease-based stains, including those that are deeply ingrained. Consisting of a mixture of solvents and highly absorbent solids, the paste consistency allows the active ingredients to work on the substrate for a long time. It dries to a powder that can then be brushed off. Lithofin MN Builder’s Clean disolves and removes cement and mortar residues, efflorescences, limescale deposits, stubborn ingrained dirt, rust and rust discolourations. Algae, Mould & Plant Growth Anything very abrasive. Porcelain is tough and scratch resistant, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get scratched at all. Avoid going at it with anything like steel wool or a steel brush. These might also leave particles in the grout which would oxidise, causing discolouration. We recommend following Outdoor Cleaner with Lithofin Algex to slow algal growth. Dry Treat Alkaline Cleaner Choose Dry Treat Stain Proof Alkaline Cleaner for food and grease stains. Any cleaning solution not specified as suitable for porcelain. Harsh chemicals such as bleach may have an impact on appearance. The effect of anything that adversely affects the tile surface or the grouting and is likely to be difficult to reverse. PLEASE NOTE: Dry Treat Acidic Cleaner should never be used on limestone or other calcareous materials. Indoor surfaces and outdoor kitchen surfaces Dry Treat Daily Countertop Cleaner Dry Treat Stain Proof Daily Countertop Cleaner is recommended for outdoor kitchen surfaces. The ramp test (R rating) is often used for porcelain paving and this is conducted using a ramp which is gradually raised. Oil is applied to the ramp and a test person walks onto the ramp wearing boots. The measurement is taken from the point at which they slip. R11 is the rating usually applied to porcelain paving and this is equivalent to the value of 34 to 51 in the PTV test data (pendulum test value).
