About this deal

Finally, the Techmarine – who you may take. He can join Strike Squads, but also gets Lone Operative if near a Vehicle, and that’s probably where you want him, handing out boosts to hits and repairs. Land Raiders and Stormravens look pretty attractive now, so whether he sees play will mostly come down to price.

The 40K Combat Patrol Adeptus Custodes is a great way to get started with this army and get a lot of excellent miniatures at a bargain. The box includes 1 Shield Captain, 1 Vexilius Praetor, 3 Custodian Guard, 3 Vertus Praetors, 10 Sisters of Silence Prosecutors, and 2 Burning of Prospero transfer sheets. The set is quite versatile, and you can combine and build the miniatures in multiple ways to get maximum value. Hot on the heels of Krieg comes a new Astra Militarum novel, based on the exploits of the Catachan Jungle Fighters . As the Catachans prepare to go on the offensive against Orks , they find themselves saddled with a barely trained trooper from another regiment. Can he prove that he’s not a coward and earn the respect of Colonel Haskell ‘Hell Fist’ Aldalon? Now moving to more exclusively Daemon models, this new combat patrol is a great start for any fans of Khorne’s Daemonic forces. However, this one may not be for you if you’re not collecting skulls in your Daemon army. Stave of Supremacy*- A Warding Stave wielder gets a massive 18” Aura that causes enemy PSYKERS to Perils on any double instead of just 1s and 6s. Niche, but pretty potent against the right army. Since then the Grey Knights, who chose not to paint their armour, have travelled from system to system, fighting Chaos in all its forms. And they’re pretty damn good at it too. What’s In The Box?Next up, we have Lands Raider, three variants thereof. Honestly, this army probably just wants the Land Raider classic. Big anti-tank shots is what Grey Knights are slightly missing elsewhere, so four godhammer lascannon shots from a super-tough platform is perfect. Delivering Terminators via Assault Ramp is also fantastic, and if you’re on the Chaplain plan for boosting them up this is an ideal way to get them into the fray. The Redeemer and Crusader variants both seem fine too, and the Redeemer’s absurd strength on overwatch could prove a big draw, but this army doesn’t struggle to pile on the pain up close. Destroyer of Crys’yllix- Puts -1 AP and +1 Dmg on a Daemon Hammer. Still has the -1 to Hit, but when it hits it should put down most things. On the flip side, let’s look at the bottom of the list: the Adeptus Mechanicus Combat Patrol. It’s pretty pitiful. Perhaps the biggest surprise here is that the Grey Knights, whose box was the very worst value in the entire batch, comes in third in most points-per-dollar. What this means, essentially, is that Grey Knights are undercosted, if you can say such a thing about a Games Workshop product. If you’re getting 545 points in a box and it’s the worst value box, then that means that the Grey Knight models are very valuable. Conclusion

So before diving in to some highlights, there are some general things to cover with Grey Knights, as they share a lot of details across many units. These are: Sanctic Shard*- If the bearer rolls an unmodified 8+ for a Deny the Witch, it is auto denied. A potent ability against the right armies, though with only 1 Deny it’s not really something to rely on, unless you’re using Hexagrammic Wards every time to get it. Not bad, but not an all comers choice.

Faction Rule – Teleport Assault

Psyk-Out Grenade- A unit with PSYK-OUT GRENADES that is not in Engagement Range, can lob one of them at the closest visible enemy PSYKER within 6” in your Shooting Phase, causing them to instantly Perils. Not always useful of course, and the short range keeps it a little limited, but the potential to kill or heaviliy wound a Psyker for a single CP is nice to have, and even when they explode you have your shrugs to help you survive the fallout. This week’s Citadel Colour Masterclass is all about the basics of freehanding. If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toe** into this advanced technique, this is the show you need to watch. October also makes a great spot for this release because there seem to be no dedicated 40k codex books slated for then. Each non- CHARACTER has one of these powers assigned to them, except for PALADINS who can choose 2 of them. Only LIBRARIANS can choose Powers from this Discipline, although most of these only affect themselves, so won’t be too useful for them. So, with the value and what’s in this, it’s hard to pass up. Overall, this is a pretty solid box and worth it for most new or seasoned DE players. This is definitely one of the most useful and desirable Combat Patrols they’ve come out with up to this point.
