About this deal

would not recommend, even if you were looking to shed those last couple of kgs. It’s not worth the misery. The Protein Works Vegan Protein Extreme – Choc Hazelnut Heaven Overall it’s good taste, good macros and good value. A good ol’ reliable go-to. 4. The Protein Works Vegan Protein Extreme – various flavours Just like the Wondershake, this mixes nicely, albeit with a few lumps. The Wondershake is my go-to primarily because I think it has a stronger flavour, but it’s up to you whether that’s worth the heftier price tag (although both are very reasonably priced, imo). Talking about flavour, the Organic Protein Company just came out with a brand new flavour to accompany the more traditional vanilla and chocolate varieties: strawberry, elderberry and beetroot. The new flavour is hopefully the first of many upcoming exciting varieties. If you excuse me, I must go now to have my third serving of strawberry, elderberry and beetroot protein today.

HANDS DOWN THE BEST PROTEIN POWDER EVER (vegan or non-vegan). It’s just incredible (and so underrated). We recruited a panel of over 200 fitness fanatics and industry experts and asked them to put a variety of vegan protein powders to the test for four weeks. The Protein Works suggests that the wonder involved in this shake comes from the smooth texture and great flavour. However, while there’s an impressive range of flavours to choose from – 10 in total including all the classics plus more interesting options like white chocolate peanut and chocolate mint brownie – it’s the nutritional stats that really make the Wondershake stand out. There are lots of contradicting schools of thought surrounding the optimum time of day to quaff a shake, but most agree that post-workout is a great time to get a shot of whey protein into the system.

Need extra nutrients on a plant-based diet? Our selection of the best vegan protein powder has you covered

On the plus side, like the other flavours, it wasn’t gritty or grainy, and it made my oats feel as creamy as if I’d made them with milk, but I really can’t get past the hint of artificial hazelnut and the overwhelming bland-ness of the whole experience. On several occasions, he has not been able to perform due to drinking too much, including a Nottingham gig that they had to reschedule as he had to be replaced with the vocalist from their supporting act. Pea Protein Isolate -Pea Protein has the highest solubility of any protein andcontains a high percentage of vitamin K that helps the maintenance of normal bones and normal blood clotting. Secondly, the Foodspring Whey Protein mixes really well, even with water, so there is no need to invest in the most elaborate protein shakers to get an end-product that is not just slightly flavoured liquid sprinkled with little clumps of protein powder. This might not mean much to some, but a powder that dissolves easily is heaven-sent for people who consume protein shakes daily like me. It’s not absolutely vile, but it really isn’t good. If, like me, you were rather naively expecting a nutella-esque experience, don’t halt your search here…

It might sound like I’m being harsh here, but it takes a lot for me to actually stop eating something and throw it away, and this is easily the worst protein powder I’ve ever tried. MyProtein The Diet – Chocolate Brownie

How Does Vegan Protein Taste?

Then, the texture. It’s the old-style, gritty, grainy texture that most of us thought (*hoped) had been consigned to history. It doesn’t mix well, and I dread to think what it’s like blended with water…something akin to the dregs of a bad, limescale-loaded coffee. Watery, grainy and all-round unappealing A. Less than 197 cals a bar in the Chocolate Caramelicious and spot on 200 cals in the Wild Chocolate Peanut This is what makes the MyVegan Clear powder stand out so much, because it creates a light, refreshing shake that’s an absolute treat after a sweaty workout. There are four flavours, with the zesty pineapple and grapefruit perhaps being the standout. The protein count is low at 10g per shake, but the serving size is also small at 16g, so you can double up to get similar nutritional stats to what you’ll find in most other shakes. It didn’t really taste like hazelnut, and it’s bold to call it ‘Hazelnut Heaven’. A more appropriate name would be ‘Hazelnut Hint’, because every bite had me wishing for more flavour.

Our winning whey protein powders have the MH Lab Approved badge displayed proudly above their picture below. The remaining entries on our list have been carefully chosen by our editors, all of whom know a thing or two about what makes a good vegan protein powder too. It can‘stodge’ up your oats, and I add a fair bit of excess water to make it creamier, but I quite like the sort-of ‘skin’ that forms if you leave it a minute whilst you wipe up the powder you spilled all over the counter. Each 25-gram serving of the Organic Protein Company Whey Protein contains just under 20 grams of protein and only 0.6/1.3 grams of sugar and fat, respectively. This powder also mixes well and can be used with either milk or water, or you can go crazy and use it with porridge or even savoury stuff (the unflavoured variety is best for this purpose). Vegan Wondershake has won a number of coveted awards including Best Vegan Protein Shake by Women’s Running Magazine, 2020, Men’s Health Editor’s Choice Award 2021, and Women’s Running Magazine Editor’s Choice Award 2021. Why all the accolades? Because Vegan Wondershake stands on a league of its own when it comes to taste and nutrition; no other plant based protein shake comes close. Plus, this wasn’t a freebie – I actually invested my own funds in this, which I guess makes the disappointment all the more intense.A. It is recommended that you consume between 2-5 servings per day, dependent upon your own personal needs. A serving would be classed as 30g (one scoop) of Vegan Protein. It is recommended that you take 1g of protein per pound of body weight, so adjust your intake accordingly. Sunflower Protein - Sunflower Protein is a rich source of amino acids, protein, fibre, niacin, riboflavin and vitamin B6. The protein and fibre content can help with normal bowel functions. One imagines the product designers at Dioxyme as scientists and doctors in white lab coats, mixing different ingredients in vials, holding them up in the light to see how well they mixed. This is because every detail of Dioxyme products seems to be engineered to perfection: the ingredients, the nutritional profile, and the taste all working together in perfect harmony. Vegan protein powders have come a long way, and if you are a lifter with a plant-based diet, you can choose from many products in this day and age since all the major supplement manufacturers have at least one vegan protein powder to their repertoire. How much is enough protein is a constant source of debate among professionals, but the consensus at the moment states that you'll need to take anything between 1.6-2.2 grams of protein per body kilogram per day if you do rigorous training.

This is my everyday protein right now. If I could have the above two on a daily basis, I would, but unfortunately I’m not in the financial place for that… Navigating the minefield of protein shake terminology can be a nightmare, as there are numerous types that all work differently and each is designed to be used at different times of the day. A lot of chocolate protein powders tend to have names like ‘ chocolate delight‘ or ‘ double chocolate brownie‘, then taste more like the cheap hot chocolate you used to get on snow days at school – just watery cocoa.First, even though it’s incredibly weak and watery, the banana flavour is overwhelmingly artificial. This is why I tend to avoid fruit-flavoured powders, because how are you supposed to replicate the complex flavour profile of a banana in powder form? Honestly, it makes those foam bananas seem like a fresh, organic, fair-trade actual banana. So that was the first straw. If you're looking for a more advanced vegan protein shake - with more protein per serving and a widers selection of flavours, then you have to try our Vegan Protein Extreme. Brown Rice Protein - Brown Rice contains vitamin B6 shown to help energy-yielding metabolism, protein and glycogen metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. It’s smooth and mixes really well into oats – no lumps or graininess at all. Blended with just plain ol’ water it’s still as smooth as can be, but I definitely prefer it in oats to having it as a shake (but I rarely never have protein shakes, so that’s personal preference).
