About this deal

However, those huge runtime differences highlight the equally massive difference in suction power between modes, and we think Bosch has got it very wrong here. The main difference between the BBS1U224 and BSS81POW1 of the Bosch Unlimited Series 8 is the delivery scope, apart from the price.

The Dyson V15 has a single HEPA filter that is washable to extend the life and maintain the performance of the unit. While both machines last quite a while between charges when I choose the normal and eco settings, I rarely use them. Instead, my and many others’ default settings are boost or turbo, which creates the strongest suction but drains the battery the fastest. There are no unnecessary additions, buttons or edges. The device’s design contains everything it needs for its actual task - no more, no less. This combination allows Bosch to claim ‘unlimited’ runtime for this cleaner. On standard power setting, it will go for an hour, and the charger can power up a battery in 55minutes. With the two batteries, theoretically, you simply won’t run out of power.

The Bosch Unlimited 7 gets many things right, but doesn’t keep pace with the latest cordless stick developments

The Bosch Unlimited has a size of 130 cm (51.2 inches) from top to bottom. That’s about the same as most other cordless vacuum cleaners on the market. Most people can vacuum comfortably with this size.

The Bosch Unlimited has two cleaning modes – standard and “Turbo” – which you can toggle between by pressing a button on top of the vacuum’s pistol-grip handle. While the standard mode will get you plenty of battery life, it isn’t particularly effective, producing only 4.5kPa of suction. The Bosch brings 3.2 kg (7 lbs) to the scale. That’s a real heavyweight among cordless vacuums, and it shouldn't get much heavier. The device also belongs to the Bosch series called "Power for all". All the appliances in this series use the same batteries, and you can swap the batteries between the devices. Where there is light, there is also shadow The cleaning performance on hard floors was outstanding. It just took a little longer with the lentils and the oat flakes because it pushed a few lentils in front of the brush at first. We used the Unlimited BCs122GB on stairs with both the tube attached and with the floorhead connected directly to the cleaner body. Both worked well and, if you have straight steps, the tube gives extra reach and you can support it with your other hand. For more complex stairs, shortening up the system and using the floorhead directly works well. But on my high carpet, the head of Unlimited 8 was pulled down onto the carpet, and the roller slowed gradually and finally stopped completely. That is common with air-powered “turbo” rollers, making for a bad vacuuming experience. I switched to normal power settings, and this problem stopped happening, but the clean performance was fairly poor afterward.

We assess the cleaning performance of each vacuum cleaner, compare it to the competition, and then rate it. But the best thing about the exchangeable battery is yet to come. The highlight is that you can use the same battery for many other Bosch tools, too. We’ll talk more about that later. How big and heavy is the Bosch Unlimited from the Series 8? The Dyson V15 is top-heavy since the motor and dust cup assembly are on top. It wasn’t a big issue for me when vacuuming my floor or carpet, but it was somewhat exhausting when vacuuming the furniture for a longer time. As for the Bosch Unlimited 8, its weight is well distributed, so it didn’t put too much pressure on my wrists. Battery LifeThe two batteries supplied with this model are remarkably compact and light for their capacity. For comparison, a lot of budget cordless cleaners come with 1.5Ah or 2Ah batteries that are larger and heavier. The solid capacity promises a whole lot of run time from the cleaner, with the ability to swap out batteries and charge while you are cleaning.

The Dyson V15 sports an LCD screen that shows maintenance alerts, estimated remaining battery life, the current cleaning mode (eco, auto, or boost), how many dust particles are vacuumed, and their size (10, 60, 180, and 500 microns). Things change when Turbo is engaged but the Bosch still isn’t great. It’s more powerful this time than the Beldray but lags behind the Dyson, Xiaomi and Shark vacuums. On top of the body is the Turbo switch. That might not be as corny as Tesla’s ‘Insane’ power mode, but it seriously ramps up the BCS122GB’s suction. Runtime takes a nosedive accordingly.

In This Article

In constant use, we got single-battery run times a fair bit longer than Bosch’s claims. These ranged from a truly staggering 89 minutes on normal power mode with just a detail tool attached, to a fairly respectable nine minutes on Turbo power mode with the floorhead running. An hour and half of cleaning from a single battery is our new vacuum cleaner runtime record by miles – and you get two batteries. Three hours of vacuuming anyone? No, us neither. The Unlimited's runtime is about 34 minutes in normal mode, which is relatively short compared to other premium cordless vacuums.
