About this deal

Okay, my plan is to shave for 30 days with the new formulation and alternate with the old formulation for 1 shave only every week or so. I might switch from a boar to a badger to a synthetic brush but I will try to keep the same setup for at least a week. That way, I should be able to keep a consistent result. Overall, if you are already a fan of this soap, then the smell is not going to turn you off at all. If you aren’t already a Tabac user, there is very little reason to jump over to a new soap. The refills are inexpensive, but not something that you really should try if you aren’t already looking for something new. Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Tallowate, Potassium Cocoate, Aqua, Sodium Tallowate , Parfum, Sodium Cocoate, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Sodium Hydroxide, CI 77891, Limonene, Hydroxycitronellal, Linalool, Citronellol, Coumarin, AlphaIsomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Isoeugenol, Benzyl Alcohol, Citral, Eugenol. I do not believe that it is possible to replicate all of the performance attributes of tallow with a vegetal base at the same price point. A comparable vegetal base would require the use of exotic oils, which are expensive. The shelf life of a tallow based soap cannot be replicated with a vegetal base, unless it is triple milled, which precludes the use of exotic oils.

Tabac Shaving Soap in Bowl 125g - The English Shaving Company

Rather, it was the blooming tobacco plant fields as well as their aromatic fragrance aura that served as inspiration for the brand name. Tabac Original contains a characteristic Fougére fragrance note with spicy, herbaceous-aromatic hints. With precious woods, musk, amber and floral notes, the fragrance world after the shaving ritual underlines the personal charisma.” There's a new version of the Tabac shaving soap. The reviewed version will be refered to as the "new" formulation. The brand name of Tabac Original is due to its distinctive, tart-spicy fragrance composition. However, it has nothing to do with the common processed tobacco, which smells completely different and was never one of the ingredients of Tabac Original. The rich lather and texture are very nice and soft, perfect for a safety razor and several days worth of growth. Funnily enough, Germany is more commonly known for making shaving razors and brushes, not necessarily soaps. Though the same kind of superior engineering you would get from most German products is definitely on display here.

sealed products which are not suitable for return due to health or hygiene reasons if unsealed after delivery (unless these items were damaged or faulty when delivered to you or have been incorrectly delivered) For this article I spent a week shaving with each soap, using a Merkur 34C razor with Feather blades. To test the duration of the soaps’ fragrance, I applied Nivea’s Sensitive Soothing Post Shave Balm after most shaves. The Nivea balm isn’t completely scent-free but its fragrance is very mild. It's different. I went from one to another for a good 5 minutes. How different? Not that much. It's not the same, that I have to agree but it's in the same range of scents. It might be more soapy and less granny ( @luvmysuper, I know...). It's not a bad thing IMO. This version might not be as much on the Hate/Love club. You might have more "it's all right now". Responses to fragrance are personal so I discuss it qualitatively without a score. That is a HUGE word-salad there. Most of it doesn’t look out of place for professionally made soap, but I would prefer a few less “sciency” words in the list. Overall though, there is nothing that really jumps out at me except for the Benzyl Alcohol and the Citronellol. The new formula’s scent is persistent, though. The plastic bowl lid does not screw on and the soap was like a bathroom fragrance plug-in that filled the room. The original formula was similar but more subdued. Both versions lingered on the face. I applied a scented balm once with each soap and the Tabac overwhelmed the balm. Conclusion I’m indifferent to the use of tallow. If a soap doesn’t include it but still produces a good shave, that’s great. But in this instance, I believe dropping the tallow was a mistake. However, much like my own notes above, several users have noted the smell as being anything from “nothing to write home about” to “nearly repellent.” The Tabac staff obviously have better senses of smell than I do. In the bowl, on my face and after the shave I experienced a lightly but indistinguishably scented soap. No specific fragrances stood out—for me, the olfactory experience was “meh.” Not terrible, not great. I asked my wife to smell the soap in the bowls and after I shaved and the fragrance reminded her of Ivory soap. That’s an acceptable scent for a body soap, but it’s not my first choice in a shave soap. So, the tallow version seems more stable but to be honest, since the lather isn't staying on my skin without a shave for that long, it doesn't really affect the end-result.
