About this deal

HMHB’s walk-on music was Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto Number One. This was the first classical album to sell a million copies, according to Tony. There will be a gold disc on a wall somewhere. “We were going to walk on to Abba’s The Way Old Friends Do,” noted Nigel. “But The Hitchers finished with Mamma Mia”. Tony shouted to Nigel that Tchaikovsky was paranoid about his head falling off. “There is no punchline to that?” replied Nigel, “I feel sorry for the blighter.” I live in Spain, where Santa doesn’t bring your presents on Xmas day. Oh no. The Three Kings bring your presents on 6 January. How true, how true. Not entirely sure I’m going to be able to fathom that spreadsheet, so in the event that I can’t, please may I have Bishop’s Cleve? TIA, Moo As I posted on FB on both groups, the Liverpool Echo story is fascinating and delightfully macabre. Video of The Hitchers performing “Urge To Kill” unfortunately missing the first ten seconds due to fat fingers (not literally)

HMHB and David Bowie have been consistently jostling for first place on my podium since 2014, so early January has been pretty raw for me these last few years. This news goes some way to restoring the balance-though the staggered release dates mean I’m going to have to become one of those people who buy records in multiple formats. Yes, there was a BBC film about the murder case, from 1990, and like many things these days, here it is on YouTube. That adjective was “rival”. I suggested Trevor – which he could also have sung, I suppose. Somebody behind me snorted, possibly in derision.

Peter – sounds like a beautiful moment. My turn to be grateful, as Dr. D has reminded me of great scenes like this from those Sunday afternoons of yore. And I actually just wondered aloud – very loud – what relation Cyril was to Beyonce, enjoying that absurdity momentarily. I wasn’t quizzing NB in any way, but it was definitely one of the stupidest things I’ve ever said in public (when you consider the whole history of the American South), and thoroughly deserved the humiliation of Nigel’s “they’ve got the same surname, yeah.” Yes, of course it was Matinee Idle that introduced me to HMHB, I’m here now because Simon Morris announced the new album last week. I’m a long time listener and have 3 of their T Shirts! I don’t think Chris has ever put up any covers lyrics other than the one that’s on an album (Worried man Blues). Believe the reference to square peg in a round hole is the song “Ships in the night” by the excellent Be Bop Deluxe fronted by songsmith Bill Nelson

The gig did not qualify for the Local Events section in the Denbighshire Free Press either, although there was a feature about an event in Prestatyn on the weekend of 22 and 23 July. Apparently, it is fifty years since Holiday On The Buses was shot there. Surviving cast members will be there, but no names were given. It would be nice to hear how that goes.Another gig… We caught up with Indignation Meeting, who were supporting Blyth Power at the excellent Wharf Chambers venue, in the middle of Leeds. It set me wondering, how long is it since Blyth Power supported HMHB at The Boardwalk in Sheffield. Following investigation, I find that it was October 2000. It’s about time they were on the same bill again. Indignation Meeting’s gig in Settle was a bridge too far for us. They sent us a video of their show, which included a magnificent rendition of Arthur’s Farm. Anyway, enough of that. I can’t edit the spreadsheet for placename bingo, but while I wait for the weigh in at Newton Abbot will put my long shot Ruyton-XI-Towns, please. Have to notion to enquire of those of you who posted phone vids of us would you mind if I copied it and mixed it with some of our own? Your front of the house perspective is better than ours for both video and sound. Always a special day when you hear the news of a news HMHB album… although now have to wait over a month. Even better was pre-t’internet when you just ‘discovered’ a new one in the record shop. It was like taking a new child home.
