The setting sounds idyllic, surrounded by peach groves and a lake to swim in, the writing was very atmospheric and I could almost smell the peaches and feel the dry dust in the air when the weather got hotter. I wouldn't describe this book as fast paced, it reads at a more leisurely pace with a real slow burn between the characters. Every new book that has been published seems to be my new favourite, and every year I think, this cannot get any better. But it does. Every time. What I so love about Paige’s books is that the details change accordingly to the narrator. It’s the small details that set the scene and I love it. Bailey was a sweetheart but then the author made it seem like she was going to cheat on her husband?? And for what? Literally no reason. Anders lives on a nearby farm. He and Wren begin to build a special friendship, but there is heartbreak and devastating secrets waiting to bubble up from the past. Neither of them expected to fall in love. But sometimes life has other plans.
When Wren realises her fiancé is in love with someone else, she thinks her heart will never recover.
On the other side of the world, Anders lost his wife four years ago and is still struggling to move on.
Wren hopes that spending the summer with her dad and step-family on their farm in Indiana will help her to heal. There, amid the cornfields and fireflies, she and Anders cross paths and their worlds are turned upside-down again.
But Wren doesn't know that Anders is harbouring a secret, and if he acts on any feelings he has for Wren it will have serious fall-out for everyone.
Walking away would hurt Wren more than she can imagine. But, knowing the truth, how can she possibly stay?”

In the spirit of Colleen Hoover and Jojo Moyes’s Me Before You, an unforgettable and heartbreaking love story with an earth-shattering secret at its core that asks the question: is love worth risking everything for?An earth-shattering secret. Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paige Toon – eBook Details Emotional, angsty, and utterly romantic. This story will have you wiping away tears one moment, and smiling dreamily the next' Mia Sheridan Overall, I really loved feeling like I was part of the book, that I was meeting with real friends and not characters made to entertain me. The problem was a bit too dramatic for me, but at least the blurb hinted it would be. Guess I’ll be reading more contemporaries in the future because Paige Toon’s pen is not one I want to ignore now that I’ve found it. Her mother always told her to trust her instincts…but it’s hard to trust your instincts when they’re breaking your heart. 💔 Thank you NetGalley and Penguin books for allowing me to read Only Love Can Hurt Like This in advance of its release on April 27!

Only Love Can Hurt Like This (Audio Download): Paige Toon

A moving, remarkably romantic and emotional novel written by one of the only writers who can make me cry! Paige Toon continues to weave the most beautiful, deep stories, and Only Love Can Hurt Like This is her at her absolute best!' Lia Louis There is nothing negative I can say about this book. From beginning to end, this is a gem. Toon has created a beautiful masterpiece worthy of the highest praise and all the stars. If I had one wish, it would be to experience this as a first read all over again because it is truly magnificent. Paige Toon has been an auto-buy romance author for me for years. Year after year, I saved her latest book for my summer holidays and couldn’t wait to dive in. What I love most about her stories are those little snippets she always throws around. Those snippets usually are a puzzle that suddenly shows one or more plot twists when you see the bigger picture. So, when I got her latest book as an ARC, I couldn’t wait to start reading. The setting is wonderful as well it’s like a British girls idealised version of America, long summer days, handsome strangers, country farms and fire flies at night. When Wren meets racing car engineer Anders, a ‘will they, won’t they’ relationship develops but with Anders still grieving over his wife’s accident four years ago, can she break down his barriers to love again? As the smouldering tension increases between them it makes for some steamy reading, until the reality of Anders’ heartache is revealed and then it became emotionally wrenching for them both. The moral dilemma Wren and Anders both face but from different perspectives, makes for a thought-provoking debate for reading groups.A tightly-paced blend of angst and joy and hope. Perfect from start to finish. I absolutely adored this book!” —Christina Lauren, author of The Unhoneymooners What she doesn't expect is to meet Anders, who lost his wife four years ago and has a few hidden secrets of his own, whilst also trying to be there for his brother Anders. The fact that the main character has been dumped and falls for a complicated man not technically an affair compared to actual affairs Toon usually writes about. Nobody writes angst and joy and hope like Paige Toon.”—CHRISTINA LAUREN, author of LOVE AND OTHER WORDS

Oh my GOD. This book! Only Paige Toon can make me believe in the power of love this way….It has everything: family, love, secrets, sexy descriptions of brooding, hot men…just sublime.”—Laura Jane Williams, author of Our Stop and The Love Square We are transported to rural Indiana, where Wren has gone to heal from her heartbreak. Staying with her dad, step - mother and half - sister, brings it’s own challenges. The author is known for writing gutwrenching novels, and hits the mark again with this wonderful tale' Sun

Emotional, angsty, and utterly romantic. I was rooting so hard for these characters to get the happy ending they deserved. This story will have you wiping away tears one moment, and smiling dreamily the next.”–Mia Sheridan, author of Archer’s Voice and Travis Wren has just come out of a relationship, and comes to the US for a change of scenery.
