About this deal

The game has been expanded to several settings and spin-off games. All settings and spin-off games feature significantly different mechanics. The game is designed for every product for each setting/spin-off game to be easily mixed, but not to be mixed across settings/spin-offs. Below is a list of all released content for each of the settings and spin-off games, sorted by their SKU. Like other ‘Zombicide’ games, as players complete objectives and defeat enemies, their zombie heroes gain experience and new abilities. But with each time a level is gained, so does the threat level, taking us into the next round, the enemy phase. Each player in the game represents one or more survivors in a zombie apocalypse. Their goal is to complete the scenario objects dictated by their particular mission before being overrun by zombies. The game board represents a zombie-infested town, with large square tiles, laid according to the mission selected. Marvel Zombies will also launch alongside a day-one expansion: Galactus the Devourer. The expansion comes with a giant Galactus figure, and players can change out his head and arm to make him living Galactus or zombie Galactus. Players can then defeat or devour Galactus in an encounter with its own ruleset and cards — including a living and dead Silver Surfer figure. Before the beginning of the game, a mission is chosen. The playing area is built with board tiles and features (icons representing cars, doors and objectives) according to the selected mission. Each players chooses one or more survivors to play and everyone places their survivors on the starting area of the board.

Second (and this is the real catch), is that each Super Hero is truly unique. This way, we can tailor each and every ability to fit their character. In the game, each player controls from one (for 6 players) to four (solo game) "survivors", human beings in a zombie-infested town. In fact, "survivors" hastily change to "hunters" to smash zombies through and through. However, the team must keep the balance between survival and slaughter: as the zombicide's going on, the "danger level" is going up and infected are growing in numbers. [2] Gameplay [ edit ] Next comes a total of 87 miniature game pieces. Broken down into 6 types, including 6 zombified heroes, 6 survivor superheroes, 12 bystanders and 63 S.H.E.I.L.D agents made up of troopers, Specialists and Guards. Including Zombie Hulk and Spider-man, all well-sculpted and a lot of fun to paint, but if painting isn’t your thing, each type of game piece is moulded in a different colour plastic, making it easy to tell who’s who and what’s what on the table. Marvel Zombicide is a stand-alone game using the standard Zombicide mechanics but set in the Marvel Universe. Finally comes the end phase, when tokens are managed, a new first players is determined, and another turn begins. The whole setup takes around 15 minutes at most for the larger games and is made super easy with the instruction, clearly stating what tiles are used and where and the location of all tokens. Game Play The game puts players on a New York City-inspired board, and has them controlling a horde of zombified superheroes. As zombie versions of characters like Hulk, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, and Deadpool, players will shamble through the city streets attempting to complete objectives. They’ll have to feed on bystanders — increasing their power and gaining new perks — and battle living heroes to stay in the game. The game also features a hunger meter, which players will have to satisfy if they don’t want to lose control of their zombie hero.

The Marvel iteration of ‘ Zombicide’ is different enough from previous versions to warrant giving it a go for ‘Zombicide’ and represents the Marvel universe well with its lore-friendly rules for both comic book and MCU fans alike. TechRaptor stated "The game is fun and challenging if you like cooperative games". [6] An entry from The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction commented on the "complex gameplay" and difficulty. The writer Esther MacCallum-Stewart also praised the digital application that "greatly aids gameplay". [4] Awards [ edit ] Inspired by the 2005 ‘Marvel Zombies’ comic book series, ‘ Marvel Zombies – A Zombicide Game’ not only puts you into the shoes of Earth's Mightiest Heroes but also takes a unique spin on the Zombicicde formula by having you play as the ravenous flesh eaters. If the players are able to complete all objectives, they are winners and may proceed to the following scenario. If, on the other hand, the zombies kill all survivors, the game is lost. [3] Development [ edit ]In Marvel Zombies: A Zombicide Game, the hunger takes hold after many superheroes in the Marvel Universe have been turned into zombies. You play as these infected heroes and will be eating people to satisfy your hunger...and objectives within the game. Additionally, there are 140 cards. 116 of which consist of Zombie Hero IDs, zombie traits, spawn, bystander and Superhero cards. The remaining 24 cards aren’t usable in the game on their own and are intended to be used alongside the upcoming Marvel Zombies – X-Men Resistance.

I am Fábio Cury, one of the designers of the game. Today, I’ll be talking about some general aspects of the game, but my main focus will be on the challenges of fusing the Marvel Zombies franchise with the well-established gameplay of Zombicide. In the Marvel Zombies comics series, Super Heroes infected by the virus don’t become your regular, mindless zombie. Instead, they largely retain their intellect and, to some extent, their personality. However, they are driven by the "Hunger" for human flesh. So, one thing that became clear early on was that we needed to come up with a system where you could play not against the zombies... but AS a zombie. That’s one of the big innovations coming to the table, more on that soon! One of Zombicide’s key aspects we wanted to maintain was the franchise’s simplicity and how easy it was to learn. In this regard, we focused on keeping the abilities very clear and maintaining the core rules of Zombicide as consistent with previous games as possible. The last step is the end phase. At this point, any game effects stated to happen in the end phase happen here and if any zombie heroes were defeated in the round, the game ends and the mission failed. Final Thoughts Their step is the enemy spawn. Scattered around the edges of each mission are spawn points where enemy reinforcements appear. Players draw a spawn card for each spawn point and space the designated enemy type and numbers there. The higher the threat level, the more enemies are likely to appear at a spawn point. Some spawn cards can also give enemies extra action, meaning the difference between victory and defeat in some situations. Archived copy" (PDF). Archived from the original (PDF) on 2016-04-21 . We wanted to make sure that each hero was as representative as possible of how they’re portrayed in the comics. Each hero’s superpower is very unique, and they’re very important for you to get the “feel” of playing that specific Super Hero. Abilities are very distinct and specific to each character. However, this created several technical issues. Such as, while “+1 Extra Action” is pretty straightforward, having an ability named “Web-Sling” is not very descriptive. The solution for this wasfor each Hero Dashboard to have the rules for each ability written right under them. Le Lys Passioné Finalist | Board Game Honor | BoardGameGeek". boardgamegeek.com . We are very excited to have you join us on this venture. Gain zombie trait’ is the closest equivalent to ‘search’ action from previous games. Rather than searching for weapons and equipment, zombie traits give zombie heroes special abilities that can be used to give them an advantage, such as free actions and bonuses to dice rolls.
