About this deal

Find out more about how we make our recommendations and how we testeach of the products in our buyer's guides. Related buyer's guides Mixing in an octave lower with some overdrive and a wah is a great way to create a gnarly tone that feels incredible on simple riffs. I used the Original Crybaby wah ( read my review of the Crybaby here) and experimented with slightly mixing in an octave higher to add some extra harmonics and range. If you’re looking for a way to spice up your tone when using a wah, using the Micro POG to subtly (or not so subtly) enhance your tone is a great way to bring something new to your tone. The Donner Digital Octave guitar pedal is a solid and compact unit for those looking for a good budget option. It is one of the smallest guitar pedals in this list but offers flexibility and many features, making it an ideal candidate for those with tight pedalboards. Features This really is a simple pedal and they couldn’t have made it easier to use. You simply adjust the three level knobs depending on what type of effect you’re after and that’s it. Let’s go through a few different scenarios to see how easily different sounds can be produced: 12 string guitar effect

Messing around with different options like the two examples above is how you will get the most out of the Micro POG. Alternatives to the Micro POG It is probably the most complicated pedal on this list, and it might take a bit of playing around to produce the sound you’re looking for if you aren’t already familiar with the pedal. Among numerous other small differences, one of the key components that set these pedals apart is the battery compartment. The Micro POG can run on a 9V battery, making it vastly more portable. Since the Nano POG is smaller, there is no room for a battery. It must be plugged in to run. This makes it a little less convenient if you are taking your setup with you.

So when Boss announced the OC-5, I was pretty excited - could this be the end-all be-all of octave pedals, covering both mono and polyphonic functions, and also including analog octave up??? I feel like I’m in a good position to judge, so I thought I would write up my thoughts. There are plenty of other combinations to experiment with, but hopefully you can see why the Micro POG is a worthwhile buy thanks to it’s versatility. Reliability/Quality It’s also worth mentioning that the Micro POG works extremely well with a bass guitar. I experimented with a bass and adding an octave up to the mix gave me plenty of inspiration for different riffs. You could even experiment with using an octave lower as a way to reach really low tones normally only available on five-string bass. Sound

With its racecar red façade, stainless steel trim, and clean design, there is not a more stylish pedal out there. The next most common control is a latching footswitch, where actuating the footswitch instantly shifts the input pitch to the target pitch and keeps it there until the pedal is disengaged. Most pedals that offer a latching mode also have a momentary mode, where the effect will only be active so long as the footswitch is held down – this is obviously a very expressive option. This octave pedal allows you to blend an octave below and octave above a given note, balancing the sounds with the responsive controls. A single input and two outs allow you to split the dry and wet signals. We’ve chosen the pedals on this list very carefully, making sure none of them produce too much extra fuzz or an overall “bad” sound quality. Every pedal on this list will sound “good” to someone—it’s all about personal preference. The appeal of this octave guitar effect pedal stems from the various combinations it offers. The slight volume modulation that accompanies the octave down adds a bit of movement to the dry signal and sills out the frequency spectrum in the second octave down. You can also combine the octave-up with the dry signal to produce a believable 12-guitar sound. If you want a pipe organ sound, add a second octave up. This pedal also offers a wider range and greater polyphonic capabilities than the previous OC-2 and OC-3, while covering your octave needs in full. I was hoping that this pedal would be able to replace my Octron as well as my POG. Unfortunately the Poly mode just can’t touch the POG when it comes to playing chords. The latency is pretty low, maybe lower than the POG, but chords just don’t sound very good. Pretty warbly and tinny sounding on the upper octave. It reminds me of other cheaper digital octave pedals. Single notes sound fine. C-

Boss OC-3 Super Octave Pedal » If your focus is getting deep, fat bass tones at 1 and 2 octaves below your original note, nobody does it better than the Boss OC-3.When it comes to controls, there are four typical knobs on the panel. One of them is a typical Dry knob, while Up knob is next to it and allows you to engage higher pitches. The second row consists of Sub and Sub 2 knobs, both reserved for lower octaves, so the range of tones you can actually get from this unit is really impressive. Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided. We’ve chosen four of the best bass octave pedals on the market based on price, quality, and overall performance. A 12 string guitar doubles each string with another string an octave higher (except the high E and B strings). This means you can use the Micro POG to simulate the same sound by adding a signal an octave higher into the mix. To do this you turn the SUB OCTAVEknob all the way down because you don’t want an octave lower to be present. Then you adjust the DRY and OCTAVE UP knobs to achieve a mix you’re happy with. You want the dry levelto be slightly higher than the octave up level to achieve the best sound. Bass guitar This pedal is a must-have addition to the board of any advanced player. This pedal’s versatility and extensive capabilities make it an excellent tool for those looking to dive into the more experimental end.

The Mooer Tender Octaver is a very compact pedal, measuring even smaller than the EHX Nano POG. The Mooer is certainly no POG in the build quality and looks department, but it’s also no slouch. It feels relatively well-built, and it’s a perfect size for small pedalboards. The knobs at your disposal mirror those of the Micro POG. The SUB knob adjusts the amount of lower octave in your guitar signal, the UPPER knob adjusts the amount of higher octave, and the DRY control adjusts the amount of your original guitar signal. This pedal requires a standard 9V power supply, and is true bypass when it’s switched off for no tone coloration. The MXR M288 excels at producing a nice fat tone, and it’s decently versatile and sounds good in almost every setting. The OC-5’s “vintage” mode is its analog/monophonic mode. Analog octave up is typically pretty distorted sounding (something to do with the overtones that produce the octave), but this is the cleanest octave up I’ve heard. It sounds great. I also noticed that the octave up sound starts at a lower range than what’s typical (usually only happens on higher notes). A+
