About this deal

Silicone coated fiberglass fabric, 10 mil. This fabric can be used as a light duty reusable masking blanket capable of protecting against overspray. If money is no object then something like this Ammo by Mig Masking Putty is your best bet. Personally the skinflint in me hates spending money, but if any of the good people at Jadlam are reading this and feeling benevolent (hint, hint). First and foremost don’t have too much paint on the brush – You want to avoid the paint flowing under the tape.

So explore our AK Interactive elastic masking putty and add more detail to your scale model kits . It’s perfect for any military vehicle or figure model and is very easy to apply to bring out the most in your scale model kit decorating. If you are looking for even more textures and colours of masking putty, fluids, and tapes , we have a wide range to explore. Next, using the marks as references, the outermost edge is defined with masking tape. This will be the most important place to get right to avoid color bleeding, so take your time to make sure the alignment is how you want it, to work into crevices as best as you can, and to get your tape completely flat against the model as any bumps or gaps will require cleanup later. You may find it easiest to slice off a smaller piece of tape to begin with so that you are encountering as few hindrances as possible. Credit: Dexefiend All-purpose Abrasive Blasting masking tape. Tape is suitable for grit blast and air plasma applications. Construction is silicone rubber coated fiberglass complete with silicone adhesive. I wanted to achieve something like Games Workshop does for the camouflage on their Astra Militarum models, specifically the Catachans. Credit: Games Workshop It’s also worth pointing out that many companies produce flexible masks pre-cut to the correct size and shape for your kit, just like with canopies. Once again an expensive way of doing things, but if you only build one kit a year it’s probably worth it. At last an actual example.Printing out a stencil with a FDM printer can be pretty useful as long as you’re planning to use it on large vehicle panels and they are flexible enough to go along some curves. I haven’t used a resin printer myself but I imagine the extra resolution could be useful for smaller scale stencils as well. The finished paint job really makes the model pop, and you’ll be wowing your friends with your much more complicated seeming scheme in no time! This method is also perfect for adding honor markings, geometric shapes, hazard stripes…really anything that wants that crisp look. Credit: Dexefiend As you get further away from the area where the two colors will be meeting, you can afford to be a little less form fitting, though you still need to ensure you’re not leaving any gaps for paint to find its way into. Credit: Dexefiend Heavy silicone coated fiberglass fabric for more demanding jobs requiring protection of large surfaces. This fabric is more abrasive resistant and more suitable for primary masking jobs (as well as secondary). Never use for this purpose children plasticine. We can barely remove it once it is applied on the tank, and what is even worst, it can leave behind oily traces that can ruin our painting job.

I don’t have time to solve the problem in the coming days. I really have a struggle with finding time and planning everything. There seems always to be something that disrupts my planning. And I just have to see when I’m able to spend some time solving the problem. I’m Rob, a normal guy who enjoys making models! I’m by no means a ‘professional’ modeller, but I am passionate, try my best and kits generally turn out well! All my builds are done at home in my spare time with typical model tools and accessories – all views and opinions are my own and not that of Jadlam. After finishing the masking we are ready to apply the second color, in this case olive green, that we apply over the whole vehicle. Thanks to the masking work, we can also apply shades and highlights as we did with the base color. This would be impossible when painting a soft-edge camo. Once more, I followed the color modulation technique, and I applied the shades and highlights exactly in the same areas where I did it with the dark yellow. It is very important to follow the same lighting pattern we created initially with the base color, so that the final result is coherent. TacBloc– A soft, conformable, putty-like material for masking holes, grooves, key slots or any unique configuration. Unlike TacMold, TacBloc is formulated to adhere to metal in areas where anchorage is not possible. TacBloc is good for all forms of thermal spray. When removing the band, it's best to do it while the acrylic paint is still wet, as it will be easier to remove and will not cause any damage to the surface. The tape, on the other hand, is a type of adhesive material that is used to mask off plain areas that should not be painted. It is made from a thin, paper-like material that is coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. It is applied to the surface and when the paint is dry it can be removed. When using these types of tapes for curves, it is important to press down firmly on the material as you apply it, making sure that it has fully adhered to the surface. It's also important to use a sharp blade or scissors to cut the strip so that it follows the curve of the surface.

Overall, these airbrush painting tools can be very useful when painting curves, but it's important to choose the right strip and use it properly. Masking tape vs Painters tape Painter's tape is a general-purpose adhesive material that is typically made from a thin, yellow, or white color, paper-like material that is coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. It is often used to mask off areas that should not be painted, such as trim, windows, and door frames, as well as to create clean paint lines. However, Painter's one can be difficult to remove, and it may leave behind a residue when it is peeled off. This service does not deliver on a Saturday or Sunday. If you would like Saturday delivery please call us on 01782 409310. If we want to add a third color to the camo we proceed in the same way: we apply a new layer of putty on top of the previous work (we do not remove the first layer of masking) and then paint the new color with shades and highlights. AK Interactive Elastic Camouflage Masking Putty is a reusable putty for masking areas when airbrushing scale model kits . It has been specifically designed to leave no residue on any surface. In addition, it can be easily removed without damaging other painted areas as it is both stain and grease free. Finally, define the other edge of the quarter the same way as you began, and then it’s time to get painting! Credit: Dexefiend Stencils and masks are a wonderful way to ensure that you can get smooth, crisp lines on a model, especially when trying to cover large areas. They’re ideal for doing designs that need to be done over and over again, or when you need more precision than freehanding will generally allow. In today’s article, we’re going to talk about several methods of masking models and creating stencils for everything from camouflage patterns to army insignia.

Also, as Khouli commented above, it is not usual to paint in such a manner. Usually everything is primed first and then whatever base chosen is applied, and in the case of road wheels the rubber rims are painted next and the whole assembled as appropriate. You also run into the issue that the paint you put on the rubber parts hasn’t had the benefit of being applied to primer and so won’t have a good grip on its own. Even if you did decide to put it all together as you have, you would still primer all of it and then use circle masks to cover the wheels as you paint the rubber edges. And as mentioned, the primer is a bit aggressive on the putty as most of AK’s products are acrylic-based if I recall correctly. Plasma spray coatings are commonly used in industries such as Aviation/Aerospace, Energy (Industrial Gas Turbines), Semiconductor (Parts Cleaning), Marine (corrosion resistance), and Gas & Oil (wear resistance). Common applications include thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), abradable coatings, wear resistant coatings, conductive coatings, and decorative (i.e. polymer spraying). Once you’re happy, it’s a simple matter of peeling off the putty. As a trade off for adhering a little looser than something like a painted on model masking agent and not giving you that crisp edge, the putty peels off effortlessly without leaving bits wedged in crevices. Credit: FromTheShire Masking is key to getting a good finish on a model. It’s something I struggled with when I started making models! Here I will help you avoid many of the mistakes I made. Like most things in the Model Industry there are a variety of materials you can use for masking. Masking Tape, Curved Masking Tape & Masking Fluids. As always there are lots of different ways to do the same thing. Some will be much better no doubt – but here is how I do it. Finally, it’s time to neaten up the edges. If you’re using a two tone scheme use your darker base coat color and a brush to carefully define the line between the two. In the case of the Catachans, the camouflage has a third, dividing color, which is one of the reasons the small amount of fuzziness from using the putty doesn’t bother me. You can make out some small ridges where the colors meet. Credit: FromTheShire While I was painting my Valkyrie I realized I had large flat panels on the wings that I would need to do something with. As it was going into a Brood Brothers detachment the Genestealer Cults symbol was perfect for the wings. I decided to dust off my Ender 3 FDM 3D printer and give it a shot creating a stencil. A FDM printer doesn’t quite have the resolution for smaller stencils but for large vehicle panels like the wings on my Valkyrie it worked out great. Stencil in MatterControl Start with your brush on the tape at roughy 90 degrees to the model. Stroke the brush toward the area to be painted, i.e away from the masking tape boundary – This will minimise the risk of paint seeping under the tape. Plasma Spray Coatingsare part of the thermal spray coating family. Air plasma spray (APS) is a process used to produce high quality coatings by making use of a high energy source, very high temperatures, and inert spraying source (Argon) and high velocity particles. The result is a significantly pure coating. APS allows for the coating of some materials that would otherwise be impossible to melt such as thermal barrier coatings (i.e. ceramic coatings).
