About this deal

All in all, the RX10 is an extremely versatile camera when it comes to controls. It's easy enough to really tune it to your shooting style, which is a plus for any photographer. My major complaint is that there's no way to use the rear control pad to directly move the active autofocus point when shooting with a flexible spot area enabled. That is something you can do with the RX10 II's closest competitor, the Panasonic FZ1000. The fixed lens covers the same angle of view as a 25-400mm zoom for a full-frame camera. It opens up to f/2.8 at the wide end, with the aperture narrowing to f/4 when zoomed all the way in. It's similar to what Sony does with its RX10 III and RX10 IV models, both of which use a longer 24-600mm f/2.4-4 zoom, but also cost more than the FZ1000 II. As well as having a mechanical shutter with a maximum speed of 1/3,200sec, there is also the option of an electronic shutter that can shoot at up to 1/32,000sec. When this is combined with the camera’s built-in 3EV ND filter, it means that the maximum f/2.8 aperture of the lens can be used at a low ISO sensitivity – even on a bright sunny day. Of course, the ND filter is also useful when wanting to shoot shallow depth of field footage for video. Clearly the FZ330 / FZ300 enjoys three times longer reach, but that’s not quite the end of the story as the Sony sensor has 20 Megapixels to the 12 of the Lumix. This allows you to crop-in with the Sony and enjoy a little extra reach while macthing the 12 Megapixel resolution. So in the next comparison below you’ll see the Lumix FZ330 / FZ300 at 600mm and its native resolution of 12 Megapixels, next to the Sony RX10 II at 200mm, but cropped from 20 to 12 Megapixels. The result still isn’t anywhere near as tight as the Lumix, but it’s certainly tighter than before. If you’d like camera with a 1in sensor and a longer zoom than the RX10 II, consider the Lumix FZ1000 (16x / 25-400mm) or Canon G3X (25x / 24-600mm), albeit with both models slowing their apertures as the lenses extend through their focal range (to f4 and f5.6 respectively) – there’s always a compromise to balance. Even with the focus selector set to the AF-S position, the RX10 II will only work in AF-C or manual focus modes for movies. You can select from any of the AF area modes, but moving the AF area during shooting is a little bit of a chore as you need to use the control wheel or dial to position it and the chances of doing that without moving the camera or making a noise are slim. How much easier it is just to tap the Lumix FZ330 / FZ300’s screen to position the AF area.

So while still image quality and video image quality have remained the same between the RX10 Mark II, Mark III, and Mark IV, the autofocus system is where Sony have introduced new tech and significant improvements.

Summary

whatever the impression u had of my comment, u could let it just pass, especially if it didn't hurt ur feelings! btw, i have been in and around the same business for more or less the same amount of time and mostly professionally too. When the RX10 II came out in July 2015 it introduced 4K video recording into the RX10 series, and at the time this was a huge deal.

You have plenty of flexibility in choosing a focus point. For portraits you can opt for Face/Eye Detection. It works well identifying faces, and does a good job showing the photographer it's working. It draws a box around a detected face, and adds an inset pair of intersecting lines when it sees an eye. While externally it’s clear the RX10 cameras come from the same lineage, like most new models these days, auto focus speed and accuracy is the key thing manufacturers are always looking to improve. Here one of the under-the-hood adjustments is that focusing speed is claimed to be twice as fast as on its third iteration. The lens includes optical stabilization, which does a good job for the most part. I did notice some modest shake here and there when zoomed all the way in, but telephoto video is very difficult to keep steady when recording without a tripod. Great Results, but Not All-Weather As detailed in our intro, this feature is twinned with a larger than average one-inch Exmor RS sensor, though that’s still smaller in terms of physical dimensions than the APS-C chip found in the average DSLR or mirrorless, so users are really going to feel they need the broad reach and possibilities for shooting an equally broad range of subjects the provided lens delivers here.

but i still call myself a semi-pro, enthusiast, professional hobbyist etc not because of false modesty but because it's the simple truth! While the RX10 II and RX10 III share the same 25 point Contrast Detection autofocus system, Sony have introduced a Hybrid AF system into the RX10 Mark IV consisting of a 315 point Phase Detection system and 25 point Contrast Detection system. While it can’t quite match the Sony RX10 II’s maximum continuous shooting speed for full resolution JPEGS, the Lumix FX330 / FZ300 offers a wealth of continuous shooting options at lower resolutions. In addition to its 60fps Super high speed 3 megapixel mode it supports Panasonic’s 30fps 4K Photo modes which allow you to capture 8 Megapixel stills from 4K video. At its full 12 Megapixel resolution the FZ330 / FZ300 can manage a respectable 12fps. Over the years I've come to realize that my very favorite cameras were not full-frame. They were 4/3rds and APS-C and one smaller than my current 1" Sony. However, with improvements made to the Bionz X image processing engine from previous models, the processor in the RX10 IV offers faster continuous shooting of up to 24 frames per second, whereas the RX10 III and RX10 II were only capable of 14fps.
