About this deal

My use is occasional, often over a few days and it doesn’t feel as if I’m always having to charge them. They are more expensive than previous models and deliver a noticeable, albeit slight jump up in sound quality. The headphones should also function under a top-of-the-range Hansgrohe raindance shower head (a little pro cycling sponsor reference there).

So it's probably best to avoid these for commuting, and keep them for the gym or a jog, where they will happily operate, tickle-free, on less than full volume. With a focus on fitness trackers, headphones, running wearables, phones, and tablet, he has written for numerous publications including Wired UK, GQ, Men's Fitness, BBC Science Focus, Metro and Stuff, and has appeared on the BBC Travel Show.Forget, for a moment, the AfterShokz Titanium’s bone conduction claims; being able to hear your surroundings while you listen to music makes this a genuinely interesting product. As for ambient sound, with your ear canal not obstructed, you’re free to hear everything around you – provided the volume of your audio isn’t turned all the way up. Nice review Monty and i’m moved to try some via your extortionately compensatory link 🙂 Just joking you deserve the commission if it flows through.

I have found that once I get above 18-20 mph or so the wind noise starts to drown out the Trekz unless I crank the volume all the way up.You can (if you’re planning to be absolutely still) run the ’fonez in reverse, with the loop under your chin and the vibrators (hmm) positioned carefully in the usual place but this looks daft and, simply, doesn’t seem right. If you’re planning on wearing these whilst cycling, your experience might vary depending on what type of helmet you wear. Michael is a keen swimmer, a runner with a number of marathons under his belt, and is also the co-founder of YouTube channel The Run Testers. Right now, Shokz owns this space because there’s nothing really out there to give it some competition. We weren't especially concerned about the 36g weight of these sport-centric headphones, but we did have a small problem with the head-band, which is rather loose.

If you've been turned off other bone conduction headphones due to their short playtime, it's well worth checking out the OpenRun Pro.Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. Patented designs and durable components guarantee your headphones can keep up with high-impact activities and weather any storm.

They also boast an impressive quick charge function that delivers an hour and a half of playback after just five minutes of charging, while a full charge will keep them going for up to 10 hours. For me, I care a bit more about the volume than I do the sound quality (which I don’t really know how to measure or describe anyway). If you’re looking for headphones that are primed for getting sweaty with and you don’t want to drown out the world, the Shokz OpenRun are currently your best option behind the newer and upgraded Shokz OpenRun Pro. You could use them with a pair of earplugs to block out your surroundings, but that's no substitute for active noise-cancelling.Some runners like to block out external sounds with a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, but if prefer to be aware of your surroundings, bone conduction headphones is the way to go. However, that's caused by a clever lightweight design that's hard to resist, and which gives the Trekz Air a characteristic that's truly unique; they're so light and un-intrusive that it's easy to forget you're wearing them. The vibratey end bits are low profile and the headphones as a whole, including the neck loop, sit close to head. However, when things get loud or you have to venture outside, the AfterShokz Titanium suffer from a lack of volume and too many vibrations.
