About this deal

Varying the green and brown materials used in each layer increases microbial diversity in the finished compost.

Any garden waste such as stems and woody material aren’t suitable to use in this compost bin, if the aim is to produce compost in a period of weeks. It will effectively destroy disease pathogens (such as powdery mildew on pumpkin leaves), weed seeds, weed roots (such as couch and kikuyu) and weeds which reproduce through root bulbs (such as oxalis).Locate Your Nearest Go Green World Products Sales Representative For information on where to purchase this item or for other questions regarding this product, contact your local authorized Go Green World Products, LLC representative. Insulated and vented sides help it compost quickly and it's available in a range of sizes, from 250L to 700L (pictured). As I show in the picture, even though it is raining in cold where I am and 40°, yesterday it was in the 60s and sunny and today the composter is trapping enough heat to keep it 80° inside all day.

Composter automates rotating drum operation with the newly automated PLC Control Panel with Soft Touch Screen by XACT Systems.

It is more challenging to produce compost quickly in a cold climate as the colder temperatures slow down the composting process. Save money by recycling your waste with the help of the 600L Thermo-Star Composter, made from the high quality Thermolen material which is both UV and water resistant. However, the lid isn't included, and this composter needs a lot of assembly with power tools, so if DIY isn't your bag you may want to look elsewhere. Huge openings: Super large openings on the top and bottom for easy fertilizer insertion and removal. Heat builds in the pile, and thermophilic (heat-loving) bacteria multiply, breaking down all but the most resistant materials around the hot core of the pile, driving off moisture and carbon dioxide in the process.

I’ll then dig out the well-rotted compost – picking out all the non-shredded wood and branches as I go. As we move down the list, the nitrogen content increases, and the materials at the bottom of the list contain higher amounts of nitrogen, and are considered ‘ greens‘. TIP: When the earthworms move into the compost, it’s a sign that it’s finished and ready, because it’s cooled down enough for them and they’re in there because it’s full of nutrients! Enclosing the sides will retain heat, which speeds up the rotting process – the larger the pile, the more heat.

Do note that Biochar is controversial when it comes to soil amendment, and the Royal Horticultural Society advises only using FSC-certified Biochar which is made from European hardwoods. It belongs to the Araceae (arum lily) family, a group of flowering plants with spadix-spathe flowers, just like the Peace Lily houseplant. When the core temperature climbs over 155° (68° C), oxygen will be depleted within a few hours, so it’s time to turn the pile.
