The container closure system comprises of a white and opaque PVC laminate with a 25 g/m2-20 micron paper/ aluminum foil lidding material (CRSF Compliant). Indications: Relief of sinus pain and the symptoms of colds and influenza, including fatigue and drowsiness. Guaifenesin is a type of medicine called a cough expectorant. Expectorants are used to treat a productive, chesty or mucus cough, where you cough up phlegm. Guaifenesin helps to thin and loosen the mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up.
It contains three ingredients - paracetamol, phenylephrine hydrochloride and guaifenesin - to provide relief of symptoms associated with colds and flu including:Phenylephrine hydrochloride is irregularly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and undergoes first-pass metabolism by monoamine oxidase in the gut and liver; orally administered phenylephrine thus has reduced bioavailability. It is excreted in the urine almost entirely as the sulphate conjugate. Guaifenesin is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. It is rapidly metabolised by oxidation to ß-(2 methoxy-phenoxy) lactic acid, which is excreted in the urine. This medicinal product contains 31 mg of sodium per dose. There are many other cold and flu and cough remedies available to buy without a prescription. Many of these will also contain paracetamol, phenylephrine hydrochloride and guaifenesin among their ingredients. If urine is collected within 24 hours of a dose of this product, a metabolite may cause a colour interference with laboratory determinations of 5 hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5- HIAA) and vanillymandelic acid (VMA).There are no preclinical data of relevance to the prescriber additional to that already covered in other sections of the SPC.
