About this deal

The removal of two steps of the plating process also reveals musical details and dynamics that would otherwise be lost due to the standard multi-step process. The composition is actually Hank Jones' "Bangoon", and first appeared on Gigi Gryce's 1957 Jubilee Records album Jazz Lab, with Jones playing piano. I totally agree with others, a simple high quality gatefold cover would be much much better for presentation and the haptic overall. Compared to Analogue Productions, Impex and Tone Poet, these are really quiet vinyls, this vinyl is damn noisy. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has been the undisputed pioneer and leader in audiophile recordings since the company's inception in 1977.

S. and Japan in 1986, and it continued to appear under this title, or as "Bangoon (aka Alison's Uncle)", on reissues into the 21st century. Their bandmates, picking up on the intimate vibe and calm mood here – as well as on the spry, head-over-heels spirit of “Love for Sale” – join in on the conversation with sharp economy and float-on-air roundedness. Somethin' Else is an album by American jazz saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, recorded on March 9, 1958 and released on Blue Note in August later that year—his only album for the label. Limited to 6,000 numbered copies, pressed on dead-quiet MoFi SuperVinyl at RTI, and mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s ultra-hi-fi UltraDisc One-Step 180g 45RPM 2LP collector’s edition pays tribute to the record’s merit and includes the bonus track “Allison’s Uncle. At the end of that track, Davis can be heard addressing producer Alfred Lion, saying "is that what you wanted, Alfred?

Alison’s Uncle” is the only song on this release that did not strike a chord with me [and that was because of the brassy drumming], but that’s just my taste . There's the faintest hint of accompaniment by the rhythm section of Blakey/Jones/Jones but mostly it's just Cannonball Adderley blowing his heart out. The vinyl composition features a new carbonless dye (hold the disc up to the light and see) and produces the world’s quietest surfaces.

Developed by NEOTECH and RTI, MoFi SuperVinyl is the most exacting-to-specification vinyl compound ever devised. The iconic composer/trumpeter steps into the role of sideman on the 1958 set, one of just a handful of times he’d make such a move after the calendar passed the mid-1950s. Adderley was a member of Davis' group at the time, and the album was recorded shortly after Davis' own landmark album Milestones. Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones is said to have named both of his children Julian, in honor of Mr. Adderley and Davis would also play together on the 1958 Columbia Records release Milestones, as well as the 1959 landmark Kind of Blue, one of the most universally acclaimed jazz albums. As brilliant as each note is, those same notes seem understated, floating like smoke, sustained just long enough for rhythmic perfection. Nat Adderley's alternate title refers to the session having taken shortly after his daughter Alison had been born. For reasons that extend far beyond the outstanding playing and flawless repertoire, Somethin’ Else is without question a record you’ll always want to watch and hear come together. On one hand, the sound is so rich and detailed, you want to stretch out your hand and grab at the bass. Aurally and visually, this UD1S reissue exists as a curatorial artefact meant to be preserved, touched, and examined.

Julian’s forty seven year saxophone career was far to short, by the time he should have been hitting his stride, and shifting into high gear he was gone. Audio Venue Ltd, t/a Audio Venue is a credit broker, not a lender and is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 738562). Adderley and Davis bring contrasting approaches to the table yet sound of a singular mind on “Autumn Leaves,” with the latter’s muted trumpet and the headliner’s lush alto saxophone dovetailing into a performance that endures as a blueprint for expression, counterpoint, sophistication, fluidity, and linearity. That’s not all: His clear lines create a common understanding that spreads across the bandstand, slyly shaping the entire performance. Also on the session is trumpeter Miles Davis in one of his handful of recording dates for Blue Note. The title "Alison's Uncle" was created by Nat Adderley in the 1980s when he was asked by reissue producers to name a track that they could not identify. Cannonball Adderley’s Somethin’ Else, one of the few albums featuring Davis as a sideman, is calm and uncluttered and direct, each line and phrase contributing something crucial to the whole. Perhaps I’ve watched too many movies, because I pictured my adventure into the world of Jazz as being more cerebral, more intellectual and more scholarly . and while Jazz at first seems to control the environment, it didn’t take me long to adjust my seating, find my footing and slip into the groove, totally engulfed . Throughout its history, Mobile Fidelity has remained true to this goal, pioneering state-of-the-art technologies and setting audiophile standards that remain in place today.
