Anton Yelchin was part of the series through the first two seasons, as he had recorded enough dialogue [ specify] to complete them before his sudden death. [12] Yelchin was also able to provide a portion of dialogue for the final season, while the remaining portions of dialogue were recorded by Emile Hirsch. [13] [14] Tales of Arcadia is a trilogy of computer-animated science fantasy television series created for Netflix by Guillermo del Toro and produced by DreamWorks Animation and Double Dare You. I saw the show first and couldn't wait for the new season. This differs a lot from the show and is much darker. There are some parallels, but it differs in almost every way, so you don't know what comes next (though some parts are a bit predictable). Jules Rigolle, Alfredo Torres, Linda Chen, Rustam Hasanov, Alfonso Blaas, "Escape from the Darklands"Clancy Brown as Gunmar, the iron-fisted leader of the Gumm-Gumms who reside in the Darklands. He is powerful and ruthless, and will readily dispose of loyal minions and allies who can no longer serve him. He has no qualms about enslaving or killing his fellow trolls to accomplish his goals. However, he cares deeply for his son. Despite his apparent main antagonist role, Gunmar in fact serves Morgana. Vendal's death carries a warning from beyond the grave as Gunmar, with the help of the traitorous Usurna, takes control of the Heartstone and Trollmarket. Claire nearly dies when she makes a massive shadow portal to evacuate Trollmarket while and Steve and Eli help the trolls get to safety. A possessed Claire brings the Pale Lady the remains of Angor Rot at the end of the episode.

Trollhunters, stupid-fun and real adventure with great characters, amazing world-building and fun for all, is a shining example of how sad it is Daniel Kraus is so underrated. Fans of Christopher Moore or R.L Stine would eat this with a spoon. It makes me happy to see his work be adapted into an animated series as popular as Trollhunters is, though. And The Shape of Water, another co-write with del Toro, was a successful film. There's hope yet. In November 2017, del Toro announced that Trollhunters would be expanded into a trilogy of interconnected animated series under the name Tales of Arcadia. The two sequel series set to continue the story would be entitled 3Below and Wizards, and would explore the secret worlds of extraterrestrials and wizards hidden in the same fictional town of Trollhunters. [17] [18] In 2017, Marc Guggenheim and Rodrigo Blaas continued their role as showrunners and executive producers for 3Below, with A.C. Bradley serving as story editor and head writer until her departure to work on What If...?. [22] My singular complaint, is that this novel does read like it was meant to be an ornamented movie script. Scenes that could be more powerful in fewer words are dragged out longer than they need to be, especially action scenes; I felt that the strength of the fight scenes floundered under their own verbosity. Also, some of the smaller scenes added in near the end felt as if pulled straight from film. I've had these same feelings before while reading works from other directors, and while I enjoyed those books as well, it seems to be a common thought that nags at me.ColliderVideos (January 30, 2017). [7] [8] Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia (or simply Trollhunters) is an American computer-animated fantasy streaming television series created by Guillermo del Toro and produced by DreamWorks Animation Television and Double Dare You Productions for Netflix, based on the 2015 novel Trollhunters by del Toro and Daniel Kraus. [2] It follows the story of James "Jim" Lake Jr., a teenage boy who finds a mysterious amulet and stumbles across a secret realm inhabited by trolls and other magical creatures. Soon afterward, he and his friends are charged with protecting the world from the dangerous monsters that lurk in the shadows of their small suburban town. An underground world, accessible by ours through sewers, vents and, yes, bridges, existing outside of it somehow, the world of trolls is rust, dirt, trash and filth. Not every troll is malevolent, Jim is told by a fellow human in trollworld cased in metal, but the ones that are bad are eeeeevil. I enjoy Guillermo Del Toro. I thought the first bits of The Strain were solid, I've enjoyed many of his movies, and so a foray into children's books really seemed like it should have been down my alley. Why, then, didn't this work for me?

The writing team remained small and consistent throughout its entire fifty-two episode run, allowing Marc Guggenheim, The Hageman Brothers, Aaron Waltke, Chad Quandt, and A.C. Bradley to build out all three seasons in advance of the show's premiere without interruption. This provided the writers a rare opportunity for an unusual amount of intricate planning and plot serialization to be woven throughout the series, including details planted for secrets that wouldn't be revealed until seasons later, sometimes even hinting at storylines for future installments of Tales of Arcadia that wouldn't be announced until years afterward. Jim wakes up and talks with his father before he leaves for work. After Jim Sr. leaves, Tub comes out as Jim says he does not want to meet with the trollhunters anymore while Tubs says it is their calling. A man walks over with a flyer of his daughter.
