PDF / EPUB File Name: The_Darkness_Outside_Us_-_Eliot_Schrefer.pdf, The_Darkness_Outside_Us_-_Eliot_Schrefer.epub for months after finishing tdou, i searched for words to convey the extent of my love for it, to do justice to how deeply kodiak and ambrose have burrowed into my heart. how i did not anticipate for this book to impact me so deeply but not a day goes by where i don’t think about it. and yet, only elevator music. This book is truly bringing high quality science fiction content to the MM genre and is a must read for all MM fans. OH MY GOSH THIS BOOK WAS SO (unexpectedly) INTENSE !!!!!! highkey sent me into multiple existential crises,, i can never look at outer space the same way again 🥲

Federation and Dimokratia (and with today's real world political conflicts in mind: bad tongues would compare them to the US and Russia). Soon, our boys learn that the ship doesn't only have their wellbeing and safety in mind, but obviously seems to follow some higher agenda that the two spacefarers are not aware of and have hardly any chance of finding out - until.... Kodiak and Ambrose redesign one of the rooms to make it a blind spot for OS and build an old fashioned radio antennae. The transmissions that they receive from Earth are not only confusing them - but turn their blood to ice once they begin to understand. Two men from warring countries isolated together in space... that sounded like an incredible premise—one I was beyond eager to read about. Ambrose was the perfect protagonist to narrate this book, with a wonderful sense of humour that cushioned the severity the plot. I loved experiencing his massive heart slowly chipping away at Kodiak’s closed-off demeanor. Their romance sprinkled throughout the story made my heart melt; Ambrose and Kodiak’s circumstances of true loneliness only served to amplify how much they cared for each other. I wanted to give them both a big hug. Bottle Episode: The novel takes place entirely on the Coordinated Endeavor. Until the very end, when it finally crashes on Sagittarion Bb after thousands of years of travel. Insanity used to be a stranger that lived on the other side of the world. Now it's moved next door. It's only a matter of time until it becomes shipmate, lover, self.”

My second doubt was: How do bodies conserved in a fluid last for thousands of years? Don't they disintegrate at some point in time? I believe even deep frozen foods will not remain edible for years, let alone millennia. They Both Die at the End meets The Loneliest Girl in the Universe in this mind-bending sci-fi mystery and tender love story about two boys aboard a spaceship sent on a rescue mission, from two-time National Book Award finalist Eliot Schrefer. Stonewall Honor Award winner!Regarding the plot, this will be pretty brief, but let me start with the positives. The mystery was very well done. From the end of the first part onwards, the tension was high, the plot twists mostly caught you off guard (I did partly guess one, but I think that was more me spitballing, not because it was blindingly obvious), and I got very involved in reading it to find out what would happen next. Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Exploited by Ambrose and Kodiak 's thirteenth clones in Part 5. With thousands of ship tasks outstanding, they kill seven of their eight remaining clone pairs, ensuring that OS will be forced to keep them alive as long as possible. Motivational Lie: Minerva's distress call is revealed to be one, meant to keep Ambrose and Kodiak focused on completing the ship's necessary maintenance, and ideally keep them from digging too deep into the truth of their situation. When they turned to outright suicide (or rather, murder of their future copies) I was left speechless and yet deeply impressed how that worked out for Ambrose and Kodiak, to give them the most fulfilled life that they could have, living in the vast expanse of space, on 'a dust mote floating in a stadium' as Ambrose once called it.

written for my top 10 books of 2021 countdown on bookstagram where the darkness outside us is ranked at #1) Distant Finale: Played with. Part 6 happens 12 thousand years after Part 5. As the final clones awake, they're finally in the new planet. The final parts of the story include a time skip of a year to when the first human zygote gets finally born. Grasping the full concept of the story feels like a religious revelation somehow. Knowing that mankind starts anew governed by - literally - Adam and Steve, is such a powerful thought. Generations of humans who will wonder where they came from, who will share tales of the epic love story of their same sex parents that will eventually melt into sacred lore, about gods/ancestors who came down from Heaven. Despair Event Horizon: When Kodiak and Ambrose kill almost all the clones, they note OS screaming as they do. It goes silent in the immediate aftermath, and in the subsequent years of their lives Ambrose describes it as docile, with the two of them no longer disposable. Kissing, undressing, putting hands down pants, mention of rubbing and grinding. Spooning is describes as feeling "his crotch with my ass." Erections and masturbation are mentioned vaguely. Vague talk about sex as giving and receiving, and what's wrong with using "top" and "bottom" to describe people.

Minerva Cusk, the daughter of the wealthy Cusk family - citizens of Federation, by the way - is in fact the first person to navigate a space vessel to Titan, one of Saturn's moons, intending to establish mankind's first settlement in outer space. Ambrose and Kodiak become good models of communication and teamwork by learning from negative experiences. They also model a lot of courage and perseverance in solving problems and overcoming hardships. i found the plot to be a bit slow and there were plotholes here and there that made zero sense, but it was overall an okay and cute read.

and by now you might have accurately guessed that this book might trigger an existential crisis. it did for me. it put me in the fetal position and i had to take a nap after finishing this book. it also gave me intense emotional whiplash - from laughing one moment, to full on sobbing, to feeling strange and staring at the ceiling. i love that for me. Scar Survey: Ambrose notices a scar on Kodiak's arm, and with some pressing, Kodiak admits it's from his Training from Hell in Dimokratía's space program. But this book isn't only impressive regarding the well constructed plot. It also conveys important philosophical aspects, successfully applying Plato's famous allegory of the cave to Ambrose and Kodiak's unique situation. And then the accumulating hints that one generation leaves for the next, giving them more and more power to outsmart OS. OMG what a wild ride!! And you were all so right! All those friends who told me time and again that I should read this book, that I would love this book, that it was a must-read. Thank you all so much for pushing me into reading this gem. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
