The story behind Stratia Liquid Gold isn’t like most skin care products. It began in 2016 when former chemistry minor Alli Reed started Stratia as a side hustle from her kitchen. Reed also started a blog and joined Reddit skincare groups, which turned out to be the key to her success. After formulating Liquid Gold, Reed shared samples with fellow forum readers on Reddit — and it went viral. Since then, Reed has formulated an entire line of Stratia skin care products, although Liquid Gold remains one of the brand’s best selling products. Liquid Gold also has ceramides and cholesterol, two of the components of the lipid matrix that surrounds the cells in your stratum corneum (the top protective layer of your skin). It also has oils in it, which contain fatty acids bound up in triglycerides. There’s some research that found that putting lipid matrix components on your skin in the wrong ratio could make it recover from harsh treatment (like washing with cleanser) slower, but from what I can tell the right ratio is here. There’s also research that found that oils can act like fatty acids in this specific circumstance, so it’s likely to work as promised. Copper Palmitoyl Heptapeptide-14: stimulates production of collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin’s firmness and elasticityPeptides work as messengers to tell the body to produce more of something. When your skin is injured, your body will naturally break down proteins from the extracellular matrix to create its own signaling peptides, telling your skin to produce more of certain types of proteins to heal or strengthen the skin. Overall, we think that Stratia Liquid Gold is formulated well and should help to moisturize and brighten skin, but we wish the brand would reformulate with a different preservative so that the formula would be paraben-free. Pros Niacinamide – Strengthens the skin barrier, fades dark spots, brightens and regulates sebum production. Soft Touch AHA has mandelic acid at a concentration of 10% and a low pH of around 3.4. The product also contains soothing anti-inflammatory ingredients like aloe, chamomile and allantoin, so irritation should be even lower. These ingredients might also help reduce purging if this is your first AHA product! There are also humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid to give your skin extra moisture. It has a very slightly sour smell. I use this on nights of and the morning after I apply an active like Stratia’s Soft Touch AHA or when I use The Ordinary’s Advanced Retinoid 2%. I was using this daily as I worked to rebuild my moisture barrier, but now I mostly think of it as prevention and maintenance.

Because this doesn’t disappear into the skin and remains on top of the skin (if you use a good amount of product) that does mean you’re left with an oily/greasy layer on top which is wonderful for the PM (although be careful of pillow if you sleep on your front), and means that this wouldn’t feel comfortable on my skin as an AM moisturiser). While her conclusions about the use of parabens, formaldehyde and lead go against the grain of what the industry at large is trying to champion, Reed has grown an organic following among those who lean into her scientific process more than the clean beauty movement. Ever since I got a routine, I have been looking for products that would improve my barrier function. I don't know if my barrier is really compromised and I'm not over-exfoliated. It's just that I didn't have a skincare routine until three months ago and so I've just decided that my barrier function can't be optimal. So, I decided to give Stratia LG a go. After all, it has the holy trinity of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids which is proven to help restore the skin's barrier. Interface uses seven different bioactive peptides, including five unique types of peptides called growth factors.Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Ethoxydiglycol, Niacinamide, Propylene Glycol, 2-Dimethylamino Ethanol (DMAE), Panthenol, Hydrolized Rice Protein, N-Acetyl Glucosamine, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Tamarindus Indica (Tamarind) Seed Extract, Hydrocotyl (Centella Asiatica) Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA. Those who live in hot, humid weather, I do think should still go for more water-based products (as I think this’ll feel too oily / greasy). Smell = Bergamot Oil + rosehip oil (just not a fan of the natural scent of these ingredients) BUT I will say it’s not as potent as the Huda Wishful oil (review HERE)

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Mandelic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Panthenol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Matricaria Recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Sodium Hydroxide, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. Stratia Velvet Cleansing Milk Sh-Oligopeptide-1: also known as Epidermal Growth Factor, it stimulates growth of skin cells in the epidermis to strengthen the skin rc-container-wrapper .rc-template__legacy-radio .rc_widget__price { position: absolute; right: 0; } That’s why applying products that contain ceramides — such as Stratia Liquid Gold — can help to replenish ceramide levels, thus restoring the skin’s natural barrier. As you all know, I love niacinamide in skincare, but because I use so many products specifically for lightening PIH and brightening skin, I can’t say whether or not Stratia Liquid Gold has helped with that. However, I do know that this is the product–in part because of that high percentage of niacinamide–that helped to repair my moisture barrier last winter and has helped keep my skin strong and healthy.Stratia says:”Those with normal to oily skin may find Liquid Gold is moisturizing enough to be their only moisturizer, while drier skin types may want to follow it with a heavier cream.”– I totally agree with this statement!- I think oily skins would find this perfectly fine as their PM moisturiser (keep the routine relatively short as it might all feel too much with a buttery product like this sealing everything on top as well). Dry skins – I think may use this as a first moisturiser with another second moisturiser. Interface is vegan and cruelty-free. All Stratia products are free of common irritants like fragrance, alcohol, and essential oils. Stratia C&C Serum >> The Ordinary's Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% (I was thinking this or perhaps the Vit C 23% Suspension) Ceramides are a family of waxy lipid molecules that are naturally produced by the skin and are vital in supporting the stratum corneum (the outer layer of skin).
