About this deal

She’s probably quite a morally grey character, willing to scheme and manipulate so that she gets her way. Despite the focused hunt, Kitty is endearing and whilst she has to find a rich husband, there is a glimmer of hope that she might also find love. In fact, she is just on the verge of sealing the deal with her fiance of two years, but he has other plans. When Kitty's parents pass away and leave her with 4 sisters and a mountain of debt, she must do everything in her power to make sure her and her sisters survive.

With dwindling funds, Kitty and her sister Cecily travel from Dorsetshire to London to stay with their aunt Dorothy, a widowed former actor. We collaborate with authors across all adult fiction genres, and also handle children’s books, young adult and cross-over fiction. Well-written, witty dialogue and conversation drives the plot forward and allows the reader to feel very much a part of the connection and spark between characters (also LOVED each of the supporting characters and would love to hear more from them - Hinsley next! She thought she had a fiance to ensure that her sisters would have a comfortable home but when he jilts her she realises their chances are bleak indeed. This book is an excellent addition to the genre, and is a lot more nuanced and thought-provoking, for a light-hearted read! The only one to see through her plans is the worldly Lord Radcliffe and he is determined to thwart her at any cost. Where this book differs, is in its exploration of the circumstances-it doesn't gloss over what would happen to the family if Kitty isn't able to succeed at this.

A widow gets caught in a love triangle in Irwin’s light and enchanting sophomore historical romance (after A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting). I feel like I read a fair few historical romances where the male lead is either alpha male, or alpha male adjacent, very virile and more than a little obsessed with sex (and occasionally, an objectifier of the female lead), but James was none of that. Kitty is a clever and determined young woman, who recognises that the societal limitations on women mean her only way of providing for her younger sisters after the death of their parents is to find herself a rich man. The story centers around Kitty, who is the oldest of 5 sisters and who needs to find a wealthy husband by the end of the season to help save her family home and secure her sisters' future. As an adult her love of reading has only increased and she can always be found with her head in a book. She’s not looking for romance, her love for her sisters is what drives her and she’s quite prepared to sacrifice herself to a loveless match to keep a roof over their heads. Not to be dissuaded, Kitty sets off for London with her aunt and sister, determined to infiltrate the higher echelons and bag herself a rich beau.

The only one to see through her plans is the worldly Lord Radcliffe and he is determined to thwart her at any cost, especially when it comes to his own brother falling for her charms. Kitty is willing to do the deed for the sake of her family, and Cecily less so, although she admits the necessity for Kitty to sacrifice herself for her sisters. Kitty is strong, independent and savvy and I enjoyed following her journey as she navigated the unwritten and unspoken rules of the ton. Kitty was a likeable and incredibly intriguing protagonist-she’s smart, pragmatic and rather mercenary in her goal to catch herself a wealthy husband which I found refreshing among the dozens of Regency romances that’ve cropped up in the wake of Bridgerton’s success.I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley with no promise of a favourable review. Lord Radcliffe doesn't like to interfere in his family's lives but if he needs to protect his brother from a fortune hunter then that's exactly what he will do.
