About this deal

This is especially true at the toe and heel where rigid, impermeable plastic structures are embedded to improve stability and protection — heat and sweat (or water) won't be passing out of the shoe in those spots. And whilst the Glycerin 18 aren’t a stability shoe, they are definitely cushioned for a comfortable run. The Glycerin 18 adds even more comfort this time around, with an updated mesh upper for a better fit as well as adding increasing the DNA Loft cushioning in the midsole.

When I put the Glycerin 19 on for the first time, my feet were greeted with a plush, slipper-like fit. The fit, for us, was true to size and we found the Glycerine 18 was comfortable as soon as you put them on. The streamline double jacquard mesh upper is stretchy to adapt to the way your foot moves, whilst ensuring breathability.

As a result, the Ghost 15 feels better during faster paces but not as comfortable during slow-paced runs. Instead of having two different compounds of rubber, the outsole is made of a single density, sticky and durable rubber. The heel of the shoe seems to have a good amount of play to it and I think a good number of runners with narrower feet and ankles may need the heel lock or to size down as the shoe seems to run a touch big. In fact, much of the upper has some sort of inner structure that could confer some degree of protection against abrasion and tearing, but the lean jacquard mesh, like all running shoe mesh, is still vulnerable to tears. I loved the jacquard stretch mesh upper which felt adaptive throughout my stride yet secure enough to prevent slippage.

As most of the miles I’m running are easy, slower paced mostly focusing on enjoyment, I’m choosing a shoe for comfort and support. There is a lot of structure and padding built around the heel, and while I found this to be a tad overkill, it did add comfort and security. It's also a touch lighter than the 17, although it's unlikely that any runner will notice the difference. The fit dials in just right in the forefoot and midfoot while maintaining breathability and comfort.

From a design perspective, the Glycerin 19 looks almost exactly the same as the Glycerin 18 and has very strong “dad” vibes. The Omega Flex Grooveshelp the runner to transition more quickly by enabling the sole to flex with the foot. This model gets rid of the traditional overlays and uses a 3D Fit Print saddle to provide a seamless and secure fit. On my first run, the shoe didn’t feel special or ground-breaking but it did feel very natural and cushioned with a signature Glycerin ride. The only concern is with the outsole, as it features less rubber, making it more prone to premature wear. And, although that soft midsole offers a high level of protection against impact, it doesn't feel slow or sluggish like many heavily cushioned shoes can be. When I ran in the Glycerin 17, it was the first time my gait didn’t feel stilted in a cushioned trainer. Blown rubberincreases the pliability of the sole with its suple texture to allow it to adapt to the movement of the foot while running.

However, it could be a great choice for those running a half marathon or a full marathon where the focus is covering the distance in as much comfort as possible. Lastly, the aesthetic of the shoe is quite appealing from the color schemes to patterns all across the sole of the shoe. For a smooth ride, the green rubber outsole features numerous flex grooves that help to keep the foot naturally moving forward through the gait cycle, and the premium upper features a well-padded tongue and heel collar that softly wraps your foot in the shoe. Its earlier iterations — the Brooks Glycerin 17 and 18 — introduced the Plush Fit inner sole, an internal sock built into the trainer that expands and responds to your stride for maximum comfort.

If 2019 proved to be the year of “too long shoelaces”, I wonder if 2020 will be the year of baffling color descriptions. They have a six hole lacing system for a secure fit without too much foot movement within the shoe (and no blisters right out the box! They felt that it provided stellar support with no compromises in comfort thanks to the padded heel collar and adequate stretch. The main feature of the upper is the fully gusseted tongue which Glycerins always have and that not even the Ghost 13 has. BioMoGo DNA is an adaptive cushioning system that adapts to your specific foot strike every time you land.
