About this deal

Repetitive work like this easily gives me tennis elbow as well so I am wary of overdoing this kind of task that will require a good deal of hammering, even though I slightly think that using a chain mortiser is cheating.

I have sharpened plenty of chainsaw chains and handsaws and such but never before a mortiser chain so please educate me! We illustrte in our present issue a machine which has apt I y been said to be an invention as revolutionary as that of the band saw. Can’t help but think that an auger drill and a big chisel would actually be faster than this jig, with all the fiddling and clamping and setting up.If you wouldn't mind, you should fill out your signature more with your location and other items like what equipment you have. The centre of the cut is made by a racker tooth with a zero degree angle (chainsaw chains are between 15/30 deg) and only appears to be exposed when the chain goes across the sprocket. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I know it's not very helpful but don't you have to be a bit careful with the chains on second hands? At the moment i am setting the logs on to logs on the ground with notches in them to hold them and mortising them there. Based on the current model 7104L, its specifications have been upgraded to meet the European standards. Get a good forstner bit the width required and drill out the majority of the wood and pare back the rest with a chisel. I've found that the time and money invested to refine log building classes and GOL classes really improved my safety and productivity.

I’ve watched videos of it in action but it’s very hard to tell if there’s any side movement there or not. Used for thousands of years by woodworkers around the world, the mortise and tenon joint is both simple and strong, and a critical link in building a timber frame. The soul cf t h e machine is in its chain, which, with its sprocket and feeder bar, we i 1l u strate in one of our cuts. You could do it the old fashioned way with a drill and chisel or a boring machine, but it would be more time consuming. but can never find much info, Eventually I wont to build my own home with log posts and sawn timber for the frame.but the sheer number of large and deep mortises convinced me to spend the money on a chain mortiser. blockquote>Posted By: blacksmith

Posted By: JoinerReplacement chains for chain morticers are eye-wateringly expensive. It is obvious that, if the chain is rotated in the proper direction, the edges of the teeth will cut their way through a piece of wood. The chain rotates with high velocity, and a deep mortise is made in the hardest wood, complete and ready for gluing in one or two seconds. The team had some parts kicking around so they made a fixture to hold the chainsaw as it is plunged into the 4×4’s.
