About this deal

Desert Palms at Dawn, 21 November 2016. Nikon D810, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 FL at 180mm at f/8 at 1/250 at Auto ISO 100. bigger or full-resolution file to explore on your computer. if you go out of your way to turn this OFF (or shoot raw and then use non-manufacturer software to process that data into images) then there is just the tiniest invisible amount of green-magenta fringing at 70mm, none in the middle of the zoom range, and the tiniest invisible amount of magenta-green at 200mm It has a little bit of cool - warm s p h e r o c h r o m a t i s m, but nothing to get excited about:

Not only does it handle better than any other 70-200/2.8, just look at the pictures. The Nikon 70-200 FL sees with astonishing clarity and brilliance that give uncannily beautiful renditions you just can't get elsewhere. See Is It Worth It and Should You Upgrade. If you deserve the best or shoot for a living, of course you need this, but if you're a student, of course you don't. First among them is perception. Bluntly, lenses that extend as they zoom are generally kit lenses –so it feels a bit out of place for a premium L-series lens to feature the same mechanism as cheaper lenses that come bundled with cameras. Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM (on Canon EOS R5) at 1/125 sec, f/7.1, ISO250 (Image credit: James Artaius / Digital Camera World) Lab resultsWeight wise, too, the RF optics comes in at just 1,070g compared to the 1,480g heft of the EF. And trust us, when you're lugging this thing around for a day, that weight makes a lot of difference –especially when you take into consideration the reduced weight of the EOS R cameras compared to Canon's DSLRs. This is a high quality, fast focusing tele zoom. Get it if you want a budget price for a super quality optic and can survive without IS or f/2.8. At 135mm, it's a very little bit softer at f/2.8 in the center, and softer in the corners, sharpening up in the center and corners by f/4.

Shooting only wide-open is why we buy this lens in the first place. If you're shooting at f/4, the 70-200mm f/4 is much less to carry. IS does nothing if you're shooting moving kids and sports. It does everything if you're shooting still subjects in dim light without a tripod. I prefer the latter, so I love IS and would want one of the IS lenses. Ignore any crazy rainbow effects; these are sensor artifacts caused by taking a picture directly of the sun and exposing for the dark underside of the palm tree. Likewise the vertical smear at large apertures is another sensor artifact called interline transfer smear; it's not a lens defect. Finally, the collapsing mechanism has one serious side effect for anyone wanting to use this lens with a teleconverter: you can't. The RF 70-200mm f/2.8 is incompatible with the Extender RF 1.4x and Extender RF 2x, as the compact lens design cannot physically accommodate the protruding elements of the two converters. This is a big disadvantage for those hoping to push the focal range (though the rumored Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 likely will be compatible with the extenders).Nano Crystal Coat (N): an anti-reflection coating which varies its index of refraction continuously to achieve even greater reflection reduction. It's probably only on one surface, and is used mostly for marketing purposes. Enjoy high quality performance, low cost prints and ultimate convenience with the PIXMA G series of refillable ink tank printers. The image stabilization is a real cut above, too. Even when paired with non-IBIS bodies like the Canon EOS R, this lens can realize substantially more stable shooting than the DSLR optic –if you do the bulk of your work towards the 200mm end, you'll feel the difference immediately. And on the R5 and R6, you can achieve an amazing 8 stops of stabilization. For less money, the B+W 77mm 010 is an excellent filter, as is the multicoated version and the basic multicoated Hoya filters or the 77mm Nikon Clear (NC - UV), but the Hoya HD3 is the toughest and the best.

The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L is a top professional lens, with optics and mechanics designed for a lifetime of heavy service while delivering top optical performance. Macro is great; the 70~200 focuses super-close, the world's closest-focussing 70-200mm zoom at 200mm, and it's super-sharp even wide-open: It has no rubber gasket on the lens mount like the 17-40mm L and 16-35mm L have to keep blowing crud out of your camera. The 70-200mm F2.8 falls short of competitors in one area—macro photography. The Tamron 70-180mm G2 and the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM II focus closer, for 1:2.6 and 1:3 magnification, respectively. The Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 manages 1:5.2 at its 200mm focal length and 39.4-inch minimum focus distance, so it matches up more closely with the Lumix S Pro 70-200mm F2.8 and its 1:5 macro focus. The lens focuses to 25.6 inches at 70mm, but the wider angle results in less magnification. For macro photographers who don't mind an F4 zoom, the FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II is the best in the class thanks to its 1:2 reproduction.
