About this deal

With regards to the 1080p, I agree that it is not for me either, but some of the best gamers in the world still use 1080p higher refresh monitors with 240Hz+ and the reason for this is because they can play better with them than a higher res lower refresh monitor, as simple as that. To test the performance of monitors, I run a DisplayCal verification using an X-Rite i1Display Pro colorimeter, alongside a few by-eye tests using Lagom's LCD test patterns. At 300 frames per second or more, motion blur is simply non-existent, and Adaptive-Sync is barely needed.

Paying hundreds of dollars for a 1080p panel that’s usually around 25” in diagonal is too much for some – you can easily get a great 4K display. If you’re getting framerates that aren’t close to 360, and don’t want to upgrade your build any time soon, you might want to save your money. You’ve probably come across some of ASUS’s gaming monitors before because they tend to come with advanced features, oftentimes industry-leading.

The display area is bezel-free on three sides, so the view is maximized with very minimal disturbance. It requires a USB connection and that you plug your mouse into the special USB port on the panel’s bottom edge. We did leave this for last, but it’s the single most important thing when you’re in the market for a 360Hz monitor. resolution means I can run with higher graphics settings in games without needing a super-high-end GPU.

The input panel is recessed deeply underneath, so much so that cables with large connectors will be difficult to use. And it’s not just the fact that it’s among the first, it’s actually a great monitor even without that fact. We turned variable backlight back on after adjustments were complete, and the image improved greatly. If you have an equally premium gaming PC to go with it, you can’t get better performance from any other display that doesn’t run at 360 Hz.Note that the monitor can also support 10-bit color depth, in which case you’re limited to 300Hz over DisplayPort 1. With monitors like this, you often have to compromise in terms of image quality and viewing angles, but that’s not the case here. That said, when compared with a good 144Hz display, the AW2521H is a minor upgrade designed for a very specific type of player: seriously competitive esports enthusiasts.

Using a colorimeter can correct the already very minor flaws, but it’s already good to go thanks to Aliernware’s fantastic factory calibration. The other settings where you can alter the look of a window at the screen center didn’t make their benefits obvious to me.Not only did Alienware succeed in getting a 360Hz refresh rate, but they also have a 1ms response time, which is pretty much where you want to be for gaming. We thought there was no blur when watching BlurBusters test patterns at 360 Hz, but engaging ULMB at 240 Hz made it look even smoother. Though for casual gaming a 144Hz monitor is great, when you want to get competitive, it is essential for your display to have as many frames per second as possible. Apart from the power button, which contains a built-in LED ring, the only lighting comes from the back of the stand, which reflects off your wall for some nice subtle bias lighting. Nothing screams expensive or premium – it’s a simple stand, a simple panel with minimal bezels, and plenty of adjustability.
