About this deal

La otra es la que da nombre al Blu-ray " A Virgin Among the Living Dead" la cual tiene 15 minutos de escenas extras, donde incorporan zombies, en lo personal este corte no es nada recomendable, y sólo debe verse como un agregado. Apparently, the 90 minute re-release version, utilizing footage from Jean Rollins' zombie film "Lake of Zombies", does this interesting tale absolutely no favours. In this original incarnation of Franco's vision, we get doses of elements typical to his work - sex, nudity, perversions - but we also get an effectively ethereal, poetic little film. It has a solid atmosphere, with some gore here and there, as well as a Bruno Nicolai score that alternates between jaunty compositions and more haunting ones. And the father-daughter relationship that plays a part in the story definitely has some appeal, with Paul Muller, a familiar face to any fan of European genre and exploitation titles, doing a nice job as Christina's ill-fated father. The Three Faces of Christina (HD, 12 min) — Interview conversations with a pair of historians and producer Daniel Lesoeur on three versions of Franco's 'Christina' film.

Sullivan, Gordon (2013-08-13). "A Virgin Among the Living Dead (Blu-ray)". DVD Verdict. Archived from the original on 2013-08-21 . Retrieved 2015-02-16.I forget who it was - maybe Truffaut, Maybe Godard - who said that the best way to criticise a movie is to make another movie. "Virgin" functions like a critique of Franco's more famous "Vampyros Lesbos". That one too had a more than average dollop of eroticism and dreaminess. However, in that movie, the eroticism failed to do anything, and the dreamlike nature of the story seemed employed to mask the fact that the script didn't make any sense. a b Alexander, Chris (2013-08-20). "Jess Franco's "A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD" (Blu-ray Review)". Fangoria. Archived from the original on 2015-02-17 . Retrieved 2015-02-16. Filmed as co-writer/ (along with Paul D'Ales) director (along with Jean Rollin and Pierre Querut) and co-star Jess Franco was grieving over the death of actress Soledad Miranda, (who was chosen as the original lead star of the title)Franco shows an unexpected level of (some) restrain. This here is without question one of the best films in director Jess Franco's career as it's a perfect mixture of art, Gothic nightmare and just a cold look at death. There are countless experts out there who will give theories on how this movie was Franco's most personal and why it was a direct connection to his star Soledad Miranda being killed shortly before this was made. It's worth noting that a lot of people overlook this as some sort of cheap horror movie but I think that's selling the film quite short. Known under a variety of titles including A VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD, this film certainly manages to build up an eerie atmosphere and some great performances. Homage to Jess (HD, 8 min) — Not so much a real homage as a collection of interviews of people talking fondly of the Spanish filmmaker, his career and their appreciation for his work.

Alternate Erotic Footage (HD, 5 min) — As the title implies, this is the forgotten, explicit sex scene shot by Pierre Quérut, which was filmed for another version of Franco's original vision.

One gravely telling scene in 'A Virgin among the Living Dead' comes when we see writer and director Jesús Franco fall asleep and snore through the entire reading of a dead relative's will. This becomes dangerously indicative of the film's overall quality as a man speaking in monotone goes on for several minutes about the law, the testament, and all his belongings. The fact that we see Franco as Basilio, a simpleton who speaks in gibberish and works as some kind of groundskeeper to an eerie castle, snoozing to his own material is pretty comical but also suggestive of how the story can be somewhat boring in some parts.

It’s said that the director’s cut of A Virgin Among the Living Dead is among Franco’s own favorites and most personal, and with good reason. He would surely be proud of this Blu-ray. Although transfers aren’t in the best condition, this may be Redemption’s best release to date. A must have for any fan of the film, it boasts two cuts of the film and a plethora of special features. With more top-notch releases of cult favorites, Redemption could very well be hailed by genre fans similar to Scream Factory. Uncle Jess & cinematographer José Climent give the film an intense dream-like appearance,as Benton's search for the cause of her dad's death, leading to Benton walking the line between earth and the afterlife. According to Franco, the original shooting title of his film was The Night of the Shooting Stars ( La nuit des étoiles filantes), the title he always preferred. [5] It was released in France, however, in 1973 as Christina, Princess of Eroticism, and in Italy in 1978 as The Erotic Dreams of Christine; both versions contained new porn inserts directed by Pierre Querut at the behest of Comptoir Francais, [2] featuring Alice Arno wearing a mask and leading three couples to have sex in an outdoor setting, added to the film without Franco's consent. Franco was not involved in filming the padded sex scenes. This x-rated version ran 90 minutes due to the added Alice Arno footage. [2]

"DVDanger: 'Alyce Kills'/'A Virgin Among the Living Dead' ". The Austin Chronicle . Retrieved 2015-02-16. A Virgin Among the Living Dead is one of the films from Jess Franco’s classic period and exists under a plethora of different versions, including both hardcore and edited versions. Franco was employed by a French producer and shot the film under the title Night of the Shooting Stars but it was subsequently released under the titles A Virgin Among the Living Dead and Christina, Princess of Eroticism. The film runs to 92 minutes in Franco’s original version, although this has been cut by as much twenty minutes of material in some versions seen around the world. In 1981, Jean Rollin, a French horror and erotica director, was hired to shoot extra material, some of which was taken from Rollin’s Zombies’ Lake (1981), and told to make it into more of a zombie film. This was re-released as Zombie 4: A Virgin Among the Living Dead, even though there is nothing to do with zombies in the original film. A condensed version of this version also turns up in the US compilation film Zombiethon (1986). Franco’s original version (seen here) was restored for dvd release in 2004. Christina (Cristine von Blanc) visits the mysterious countryside mansion of her Uncle Howard (Howard Vernon) Among the many, many films in the filmography of director Jess Franco, none suffered from the multitude of alternate versions as much as A Virgin Among the Living Dead. Originally conceived in the early '70s under the title La nuit des étoiles filantes (or "The Night of the Shooting Stars"), it was in its initial form a haunting little sliver of gothic poetry, filled with both bizarre flourishes of sex and depravity and an overwhelming atmosphere of melancholy and loss. Unfortunately that wasn't an easy combination to sell, and even after a retitling as Une vierge chez les morts vivants, or A Virgin Among the Living Dead, it was overhauled as a softcore sex title under the title Christina, Princess of Eroticism, with some new unrelated fantasy footage interjected to meet audience demands for erotic films. That didn't work either, and the film languished in oblivion until the end of decade.
