About this deal

I didn't touch vodka for years but after taking a punt on this I'm a convert to Haku. It's super smooth, almost creamy when neat, and blends well with whatever mixer you want to throw it in. Rounding out this list of the best vodka bottlings you can find in Australia is Hartshorn Sheep Whey Vodka from Tasmania. Alongside the product put out by Archie Rose, this Hartshorn expression is one of Australia’s most awarded – even sneaking in kudos as the ‘World’s Best Vodka’ (at the 2018 edition of the World Vodka Award). Yes, Haku Vodka is gluten free. Haku Vodka is made with 100% Japanese rice, which is naturally gluten free. So, if you're looking for a delicious and gluten free vodka, Haku is a great option. What Can You Mix Haku Vodka With?

Distilled from any agricultural product, most commonly grains or potatoes. Typically distilled to 95% ABV. Water is added to bring the spirit down to as low as 37.5% ABV in the EU and 40% ABV in the US. It is usually filtered, often with charcoal, prior to bottling. It is almost always clear and unaged.

Haku Vodka Details

Another entrant in the Polish vodka category and a regular sight at spirits award shows, it’s something of an open secret that Zubrowka is a winner. The brand’s Bison Grass Vodka is increasingly viewed as a credible alternative to the house of Belvedere – and one that edges out the competition on price at that. Haku Original is the most popular type of Haku Vodka. It is made with 100% pure cane sugar and filtered water. In addition, Haku Vodka is only available in select markets - so if you're not located in Japan, it may be difficult to find a bottle. Granted, these days international panels appear to hand out awards with as much frequency as the common cold; but even taking that into consideration, this is easily one of the more unique vodka expressions you can find in Australia (that also happens to be made locally). If Haku Vodka does become available in the US, it will be interesting to see how it fares against other rice vodkas on the market. One of the most popular rice vodkas is TY KU, which is made with saké rice and distilled using a traditional Japanese method called "korui." TY KU has been very successful in the US, and was even named one of the "Best New Spirits" by Food & Wine magazine in 2009. What Does Haku Vodka Taste Like?

To make Haku Vodka, the two types of rice are milled and then washed with water from the Yamanashi prefecture. Once the rice has been milled and washed, it is fermented with koji (a type of mold). After fermentation, the mixture is distilled and then filtered through bamboo charcoal. Special Delivery Requests? Let us know if we need instructions for where to find your house or want us to leave your wine in the shed! While the great debate over who really invented vodka (the Polish or the Russians) rages on, this 40% ABV Polish entry certainly deserves a spot in your freezer. Crafted from Dankowskie Gold rye and quadruple distilled, this ultra-premium vodka is the definition of the word "smooth." Haku Vodka is made from a blend of two different types of rice. The first type of rice is called "Yamada Nishiki", which is a high-quality sushi rice. This type of rice gives Haku Vodka its smooth texture and clean flavor. The second type of rice used in Haku Vodka is called "japonica". Japonica rice is often used in sake, and it gives Haku Vodka its characteristic sweetness. So far, Haku Vodka has only been available in Japan and select markets in Asia. But that could change soon, as Suntory has applied for a trademark in the United States for Haku Vodka. At Suntory, we’re committed to selecting the best ingredients while using innovative making techniques to create spirits of unrivaled quality and uniquely Japanese character. It’s the signature of House of Suntory‘s “Monozukuri” craftsmanship, and Haku is the new iteration of that philosophy. It starts with pure white Japanese rice. Milled and polished to perfection, white rice is revered for its mild and subtly sweet flavor – it’s the ultimate symbol of Japan. Part of the unique creation process behind Haku Vodka, the bamboo charcoal filtration is a Suntory proprietary method. Like a sponge, the charcoal absorbs most/many impurities present in the distillate, eliminating things that might detract from the taste. This gives the vodka a clean and clear flavor. Moreover, the minerals from the bamboo charcoal add a remarkably smooth and mellow character.
